There is a new entrance to Disney's Grand Floridian opening September 10 at Disney World. Your GPS does not know about it.
Some context.
Look, if you have driven past the Grand Floridian in the last few months, you already know the situation. Cones everywhere. Concrete barriers. Temporary connector roads with blue signs pointing you toward places no navigation app has ever heard of. Construction stretches from the Magic Kingdom parking lot all the way down toward Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.
And there is a legitimate reason for all of it.
Anybody who has driven this corridor during a busy arrival window knows exactly how ugly it gets. Resort guests, theme park buses, Minnie Vans, rideshare drivers, cast members heading to work, and day visitors. Every single one of them is squeezing onto the same handful of roads.
Disney has been rebuilding the whole corridor. The next piece you can actually see shows up in just over a week.
What Is Opening at The Grand Floridian

The new entrance is expected to connect to the northernmost roundabout, which sits near an overflow and cast member parking lot. On aerial shots, the new Floridian Way and that roundabout are way over on the west side, with the overflow lot sitting between the roundabout and the resort itself.
This kills off the temporary connector setup everybody has been using since the road opened.
The Wedding Pavilion is also getting a new entrance south of its current location. No date attached to that one yet.
How We Got Here
The new Floridian Way opened last month with two roundabouts, running from the Magic Kingdom parking lot to the Grand Floridian entrance.
Every driver got routed onto what will eventually become the southbound lanes because the northbound lanes were still unfinished. Which is why the road was technically open even though it looked like an active job site.
Temporary connectors were installed to reach the Grand Floridian, the Wedding Pavilion, and Island Tower at the Polynesian, with blue signs directing traffic.
Two of the three planned roundabouts are finished, both right outside the Grand Floridian. The third one comes later, farther south near the Magic Kingdom parking lot.
September 10 is when the resort finally hooks into a permanent roundabout instead of a temporary patch.
Seven Seas Drive Is Gone, Still
This is the one blindsiding the most people, and it is not coming back.
The intersection where Seven Seas Drive meets Floridian Way is permanently closed. Concrete barriers, both directions, no exceptions.
For decades, that was the fastest way to reach the Polynesian from the Grand Floridian area. Over.
Now you have to continue to North World Drive and loop back around to the resort entrance. Easy enough once you know it. An outdated GPS route will send you completely the wrong way.
That goes for anyone with dining plans, too. ‘Ohana, Trader Sam's Grog Grotto, doesn't matter.
Why Disney Is Doing All This
It is Phase III of the World Drive North project, a multi-year overhaul reshaping one of the busiest transportation corridors on the property. New bridges, widened roads, added lanes, redesigned intersections, and it has been happening for years now.
Phase III wraps sometime in late 2027.
The roundabouts are the whole point. Disney is banking on better traffic flow and less congestion during peak arrival and departure, which at Magic Kingdom means rope drop, park close, and every single holiday.
And there is more coming. The South Florida Water Management District recently approved a permit for a Grand Floridian parking expansion, so nobody should expect this area to settle down soon.
With Magic Kingdom still growing, Beyond Big Thunder included, how people physically get to the park matters as much as what is waiting inside.
If You Are Driving
- Pull up the current road layout before you leave. Your memory of this area is no longer reliable.
- Follow the posted signs instead of assuming a familiar turn still exists.
- Add extra travel time during busy arrival windows. Disney is openly recommending it.
- Arriving at the Grand Floridian on or after September 10? The approach will not look like it did last month.
Riding Disney transportation instead? Monorail, buses, boats, none of this touches you. Vehicle traffic only.
What Is Left
September 10 for the Grand Floridian entrance.
The Wedding Pavilion entrance and that third roundabout near the Magic Kingdom parking lot are both still pending.
For a corridor that has been driving people crazy for years, this is finally progress you can see. It just comes with one more season of cones attached.
