Disney World Closes Deluxe Resort Area, Effective April 2026

Guests staying at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort have been running into an unexpected obstacle at one of the Island Tower's entrances. Walt Disney World Resort didn't comment publicly on the project, but a cast member at the Deluxe Disney Resort hotel finally shed some light on what's happening.

The Island Tower Villas & Bungalows is the most recently opened Disney Vacation Club property at Walt Disney World Resort, a ten-story building that debuted in 2024 on the footprint where the beloved Spirit of Aloha dinner show once performed. Less than two years after opening, the tower is already seeing construction activity.

On April 15, WDWNT reported that rolling planters and a black canvas were blocking a doorway and window at one of the Island Tower's entrances. Guests who entered the building through an alternate route found more of the same on the inside: a temporary wall and plastic sheeting enclosing the same doorway and window area in a configuration that almost resembles a greenhouse.

The initial assumption among Walt Disney World Resort guests was that a window had broken. However, a Disney cast member in the area corrected the record: crews are converting the existing doors into windows to match the appearance of the other side of the building.

Walt Disney World Resort has not commented publicly on the project or shared a completion timeline. Construction activity at Disney Resort hotels is typically scheduled during daytime hours to minimize disruption to guests spending their days in the theme parks.
