We are quickly approaching one month since the Disney World has been open and with news from that other Orlando theme park that they will remain closed through the end of May, it doesn’t look like Disney World will be opening soon for guests to enjoy the magic of the theme parks. As this situation drags on, we are getting some idea of what the parks will look like when they eventually re-open.
Hand Sanitizer and Hand Washing
Prior to the parks being shuttered, Disney World was extending options to guests to maintain proper hand cleaning with hand sanitizer being available at select locations throughout the parks. Disney rolled this out quickly and was able to update the My Disney Experience app to alert guests to the specific location of sanitizing locations. In addition to the hand washing stations available in all of the bathrooms, Disney may introduce temporary and portable hand washing locations throughout the park, especially near food locations to encourage increased hand washing.
Constant Cleaning
Disney is already very attune to the cleanliness of the parks. Custodial staff is constantly emptying trash cans, wiping down tables, and picking up loose trash throughout the parks. Once the parks re-open, we are confident Disney will double their cleaning efforts to make sure the park remains clean during all operating hours. Disney is also likely to extend their cleaning efforts after the parks close through power washing and deep cleaning to make sure the parks are ready every day.
Temperature Checks
After the pandemic began and the parks had closed, Bob Iger suggested in an interview that temperature checks could be instituted along with the security bag checks to ensure safety for all guests — we would imagine this would be done with a rapid-scan, touch-free thermometer. Given the fluid and easy transportation systems at Disney, we could envision Disney administering these checks throughout the resort and at the resort hotels when guests check in.
