New James Bond Actor Says He’s “Honored” To Be Playing 007 in New Reboot

While the next James Bond film from Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Two) remains in early development, a new actor has already stepped into the tuxedo — in digital form.

Irish actor Patrick Gibson, best known for Dexter: Original Sin (2024), will portray the world’s most famous secret agent in “007 First Light”, the upcoming third-person action-adventure James Bond video game from IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series.

In a recent interview with IO’s Global Brand Manager Laurine Deschamps, Gibson described the experience of seeing his digital likeness for the first time. “Seeing yourself as a video game character is one thing, and then seeing yourself as James Bond is kind of even stranger,” he said. “But also just the likeness I was kind of taken aback by. I wasn’t fully expecting it to be look like me.”

Gibson leads an ensemble that includes Noémie Nakai as Miss Roth, Lennie James as Greenway, Priyanga Burford as M, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, and Gemma Chan as Selina Tan.

Gibson announced his role earlier this year, calling it “an honor” to portray Bond in the studio’s origin story for the character. IO Interactive describes the game as a “narrative action-adventure” that follows a young Bond during MI6’s rigorous training program.

“007 First Light is a thrilling narrative action-adventure game developed and published by IO Interactive,” the official synopsis reads. “Follow James Bond as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program, and discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy.
