New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Attraction Set to Debut at Disney Park, Decades After Original Ride

A legendary dog’s missing keys are about to set off a brand-new Pirates of the Caribbean adventure—and this time, guests will be the ones doing the plundering. After years of speculation and whispers about the franchise’s future, Disney has quietly unveiled its next big move for the parks, one that brings fresh energy to a beloved attraction without a single screen or boat in sight.

Disneyland Paris will introduce an all-new, permanent treasure hunt inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean in Autumn 2025. The experience, designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, will take place within Adventure Isle—a rugged maze of caves, bridges, and rock formations tucked inside the park’s Adventureland. It will mark the first major Pirates-themed expansion to the land since the attraction debuted at the park in 1992.

A New Chapter in a Storied Legacy

Since its debut at Disneyland in 1967, Pirates of the Caribbean has become one of Disney’s most enduring and globally recognized attractions. Originally envisioned as a walk-through wax museum, it transformed theme park design with its atmospheric boat ride, animatronic storytelling, and instantly iconic soundtrack. Variations of the ride were later installed at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland—each adding unique layers to the original formula.

Now, more than 30 years after Pirates made its Parisian debut, Imagineers are building on the story once again.

The treasure hunt will allow guests to explore Adventure Isle’s winding caves while encountering “emblematic characters from the attraction” who challenge them to retrieve a series of missing objects—including a key that a certain jail-guarding dog has misplaced.

The Imagineers are designing fun experiences to enrich the various Lands of Disneyland Paris: they are currently working on a permanent treasure hunt in the mysterious caves of Adventure Isle, whose story will be closely linked to that of Pirates of the Caribbean 🏴‍☠️✨

Emblematic characters from the attraction will challenge visitors! And will have to explore the various caves to find, among other objects, a set of keys mislaid by a dog… And he absolutely needs it to keep an eye on the pirates locked up in the fort's dark prisons! This playful will take place in autumn 2025 ✨it will further link the different experiences offered at Adventureland 🌳✨

Disney Introduces More Pirates

The new Disneyland Paris experience is part of a broader effort to re-anchor Pirates of the Caribbean in the parks, even as the film franchise remains in limbo.

While Disney has not released a new Pirates film since 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, discussions around its future have continued behind the scenes. In December 2024, Variety reported that Jerry Bruckheimer was developing two separate scripts—one involving Johnny Depp, another without the controversial actor.

For now, however, Disney seems to be prioritizing the brand’s in-park potential.

In addition to the Paris treasure hunt, Magic Kingdom in Florida is preparing to open an immersive Pirates-themed lounge in late 2025. Disney says the new space will extend the story of the original ride, providing a “haven for pirate-kind, big and small.” The lounge will also feature the return of Barker Bird, a fan-favorite character removed in 2006 during the attraction’s film-inspired update.

While the cinematic future of Pirates of the Caribbean remains uncertain, Disney’s confidence in the franchise’s storytelling power is clear. And as fans get ready to scour the caves of Adventure Isle in search of a mischievous dog’s lost key, it seems the next great pirate tale may be one they live themselves.
