Millions of Disney World Guests’ First Ride Could Face Huge Change in 2027

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is often the first stop for millions of Walt Disney World Resort travelers annually. While it might not be on Disney property, many guests consider the airport tram their first “ride” of a Disney Parks vacation. But a potential change to this cherished tradition has sparked conversations among Central Florida theme park fans.

The airport tram that shuttles passengers between terminals and baggage claim has become an unexpected part of the Walt Disney World Resort vacation experience. Since taking office, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has greeted millions of travelers over the tram’s intercom with his now-iconic message. For many, this recording signals the start of their magical trip to Central Florida.

However, this longstanding tradition could be upended in 2027. Florida State Representative Anna V. Eskamani recently announced her candidacy for mayor of Orlando, sparking speculation that her potential victory could result in a new voice welcoming travelers to MCO. While Mayor Dyer has suggested this term might be his last, he hasn’t officially ruled out another run for office.

The possibility of a new tram message has ignited discussions among Disney fans. Theme park content creator Ashley Carter (@AshleyLCarter1) shared her thoughts on X (formerly Twitter):

My first thought seeing this was we could get a new MCO welcome message.

Orlando International Airport is the busiest airport in Florida and the seventh-busiest in the United States, serving over 57 million passengers in 2023. Many of these travelers are Walt Disney World Resort guests, adding to the airport’s reputation as the gateway to the magic.

As the mayoral race kicks off, it’s unclear whether Mayor Dyer will remain in office beyond 2027 or if a new voice will take over the tram’s iconic greeting. For now, travelers can still enjoy the familiar message as they make their way to the Most Magical Place on Earth.
