Orlando Among Top 10 Worst Places to Live for This Reason

Orlando Allergies

Orlando, Florida, may be one of the most visited towns in America due to its position as the gateway to the Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort. But for those with allergies, it is officially one of the worst places to be.

It is officially Springtime once again, and that means another round of intense pollen and seasonal allergies for a significant portion of the country. But not all towns are created equal in terms of allergy severity. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) released its list of 2023 “Allergy Capitals™,” the top 100 metro areas in the United States for recorded pollen scores, amount of over-the-counter allergy medication uses, and the number of allergy specialists reported in the area.

Orlando, Florida, ranked eighth place overall, earning a score of 81.7/100 and racking up an above-average medical use score with an average overall pollen score.

But Orlando was not alone. Sarasota ranked sixth worst, and Lakeland, Tampa, and Miami were also ranked in the top 20 cities. Click here to see the full list.

“Allergies are a major health concern,” the AAFA stated in their report. “Allergic conditions are among the most common medical conditions affecting people in the United States. More than 100 million Americans are affected by various types of allergies every year.”

The AAFA also reported that over 25% of adults and nearly 20% of children suffer from “seasonal allergy rhinitis,” the perpetual sneezing, runny nose, and eye irritation triggered by tree, grass, and weed pollen that is more commonly known as “hay fever.” This allergy season tends to run from Mid-March through Mid-May.

Seasonal allergies can not only be annoying but can seriously derail your Disney World or Universal Orlando vacation, so all would-be Guests that are allergy-prone should remember to come prepared. After all, no one at Magic Kingdom Park wants to meet Snow White impersonating Sneezy.
