Even though a Walt Disney World Resort vacation is technically a vacation, it is usually not a very relaxing one. Days are long, lines can be longer, crowds can be intense, and everything is incredibly expensive. While a lot of magical memories are made during a Disney vacation, tempers can quickly become short and lead to dangerous behavior.
And one man’s bad behavior during his Disney vacation cost him his job.

According to a recently released report from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Damon Rembert of Jacksonville, Florida, was arrested on charges of domestic violence and culpable negligence after assaulting his wife and putting his two-year-old child in danger.
The police report states that Mr. Rembert and his wife were fighting as they walked toward their car at Disney World’s Transportation and Ticket Center. During the argument, Mr. Rembert shoved their child’s stroller at his wife. The stroller hit her and then tipped over with the child inside. Mrs. Rembert quickly grabbed her child, and Mr. Rembert also tried to grab them.

The two began fighting, and security ran over and separated them. The police were called to the scene, but Mrs. Rembert said that she did not want to press charges or make a statement. She did say that Mr. Rembert has a certain condition — which was blacked out in the report — and that he can get angry, but she said that he has never hit her.
When police officers spoke to Mr. Rembert, he admitted that he “messed up” but insisted that he was only trying to pass the stroller to his wife. However, officers who reviewed the security footage stated that it did not line up with Mr. Rembert’s story.

The responding officer said that Mrs. Rembert asked for nothing to happen to her husband, as they had both recently been hired as Corrections Officers. She said that she has always been able to control her husband’s outbursts and calm him down by rubbing his back or shoulders.
Mr. Rembert was subsequently arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail. Due to his arrest, he was terminated from his job as a Corrections Officer. We do not know the status of Mrs. Rembert’s job.
According to the Orange County Clerk’s website, Mr. Rembert was arrested in May, and the charges against him were dropped in July. Both Mr. and Mrs. Rembert were also permanently banned from visiting Disney parks in the future.
Fights and Arrests All Too Common
Despite being the Most Magical Place on Earth, some guests would rather spend their time fighting than enjoying everything Disney World has to offer. Too often, we hear about guests getting into fights with other guests, even getting violent in a place where they are surrounded by families and children.
Last summer, a huge fight broke out in front of the Magic Kingdom. One family was posing for photos, and another family wanted them to move. An argument began, and, before long, fists were flying. One woman was even seen holding a young child while she engaged in the fight. Police were called to the scene, and multiple people were arrested. Multiple members of one group were permanently banned, and cast members were later seen cleaning blood off of the pavement.
Multiple instances of fights breaking out in ride queues have also occurred. Most of the time, it is because someone is trying to cut the line, and other people do not want to let them.
Disneyland is not immune to fights, either. Last year, a major brawl broke out in Mickey’s ToonTown among one family. Punches were thrown, and kids were seen screaming and crying as their family got violent with one another. Arrests were made, and multiple family members were booked on very serious charges. They were also banned from bringing their children back to the parks.
Disney has a zero-tolerance policy for violence on its property. Those who engage in violent or dangerous behavior will be escorted from the theme park and possibly issued a trespass notice. A guest can be banned for any amount of time Disney deems necessary, but violent offenders will most likely be banned permanently.
