Private Company Confirms Magic Kingdom Purchase at Disney World

Walt Disney World Resort is in the middle of a dramatic evolution, and Magic Kingdom is at the center of it all. Frontierland is being reshaped by the upcoming Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land expansions, while Cinderella Castle itself is undergoing a full repainting.

But construction walls aren’t the only thing guests need to prepare for in 2026.

Visitors planning to spend May 13, 2026, at Magic Kingdom may be surprised to learn the park is currently scheduled to close at 5:30 p.m.—a rare early shutdown during a typically busy spring season.

The operating calendar shows the park opening at its standard morning hour, but ending operations far earlier than usual. During the spring months, Magic Kingdom often stays open until late. Closing at 5:30 p.m. cuts out the entire evening experience.

Why Is Magic Kingdom Closing So Early?

The early closure is reportedly connected to the SAP Sapphire & ASUG Annual Conference at the Orange County Convention Center. Attendees will take part in an exclusive after-hours buyout dubbed “Celebration Night at Magic Kingdom.”

SAP’s official website describes the event this way: “Enjoy iconic attractions, beloved Disney characters, delicious food, and a private concert against the backdrop of Cinderella Castle—a celebration night you won’t want to miss.”

Private buyouts allow companies and organizations to reserve a Disney park for their own guests. While not unheard of, it’s less common to see Magic Kingdom close this early for such an event.

The conference’s evening celebration is expected to include special entertainment offerings, character experiences, and a private concert in front of Cinderella Castle. The Dave Matthews Band is slated to perform for attendees.

What Day Guests Should Expect

For regular parkgoers, the adjustment is clear: Magic Kingdom will stop admitting and hosting day guests at 5:30 p.m. Fireworks will not take place for the public that evening, and classic nighttime experiences will not be available after sunset.

Early entry for Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests will still be offered in the morning, and daytime operations will proceed as usual. However, as the afternoon progresses, cast members will begin transitioning the park for the private function.

Fortunately, visitors have alternatives. EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom are expected to run under normal hours on May 13. Park hopping can help salvage a full evening, and Disney Springs remains an option for dining and entertainment.

A Notable Date for Spring Travelers

Private events are sprinkled throughout the year at Walt Disney World, but many guests only discover them once hours are updated online. This particular date stands out because it falls in May—a popular vacation period—and involves Magic Kingdom.

So far, no additional early closures have been posted for surrounding dates, though operating calendars can change at any time.

If you’re planning a May 2026 trip, checking park hours regularly is essential. And if May 13 is on your itinerary, be ready to wrap up your Magic Kingdom day early and shift your evening plans elsewhere on property.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
