A dining area that reopened at the Lotus Blossom Café in EPCOT's China World Showcase Pavilion just days ago is already closed again, and Walt Disney World Resort hasn't said a word about why.
Back Behind Barriers
WDWNT reported on August 12 that rolling planters had been installed to block off the right-side dining room of the Lotus Blossom Café, just three days after the space reopened from its own multi-week refurbishment. No statement from Walt Disney World Resort accompanied the sudden return of the barriers, and no timeline for a second reopening has been shared.
The Lotus Blossom Café itself remains open, and the left-side dining room continues to welcome guests. Whether Walt Disney World Resort intends to bring back the temporary picnic tables that provided overflow seating during the first right-side closure remains unconfirmed.
What Guests Just Got Back
The right-side dining room had only reopened on August 9 after a refurbishment that ran several weeks — the second half of a phased project that had already addressed the left side earlier in the summer. When guests finally got a look at the refreshed space, the changes were relatively contained — the layout and decorations were largely intact, but the floor tiles had been visibly replaced with the same larger, brighter beige tiles installed in the left-side dining room during its own refurbishment.
The Lotus Blossom Café continued to serve Disney Park guests during both closures, with temporary picnic tables installed along a nearby walkway to supplement seating capacity.
When the right-side dining room reopened and those temporary tables disappeared, most people assumed the project was finished. Three days later, it clearly isn't.
What Comes Next
What prompted the second closure of the right-side dining room, and how long it will last, are both unknown. Whether the left-side dining room will face a second closure once the right side's additional work is complete has also not been addressed.
Walt Disney World Resort has stayed entirely silent on the project throughout its multiple phases.
