Despite refusing to come back for the ‘Moana’ live-action film that Disney announced last year, Auli’i Cravalho will be reprising her role in Moana 2.
The Walt Disney Company has made some of the most successful and beloved animated and live-action features during its time. From the movie that started it all—Snow White and the Seven Dwarves—to more recent releases like Encanto and Moana.
Disney Announces ‘Moana 2;’ Auli’i Cravalho Makes Her Return
Recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger made a surprise announcement that November would see the return of our favorite Polynesian “not-a-princess,” Moana, to the silver screen for Moana 2. This was a project that for months had been understood to be a series bound for Disney+.
However, considering Disney’s current track record at the theatres and box office and the prior success of Moana, it’s unsurprising that the Mouse House is choosing to bring back the property in this way.
And this isn’t all! There’s more good news for Moana fans.

Despite refusing to return for the Moana live-action that is also due to release in the coming years (Cravalho will have a hand in the film itself as an executive producer), Auli’i Cravalho will be returning as Moana for the animated sequel from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
As fans already know, Lin-Manuel Miranda will not be reprising his role as the composer for the animated musical, rather, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, who won a Grammy for their Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, will work with Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa to compose tunes for the film.
Perhaps because little is known about this film, fans are on the fence about Disney’s surprise announcement, but this writer is incredibly excited for all the possibilities this movie brings, especially with Cravalho reprising her role.
