Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is one of the most anticipated attractions for Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom Park in 2024. As most Disney fans know, the ride is a retheme of the classic Splash Mountain water flume attraction that previously closed at both theme parks.

The new Walt Disney World Resort ride (and the new Disneyland ride) will be themed to the 2009 animated feature The Princess and the Frog. The Disney park ride will pick up Tiana’s story after the movie ended.

Guests will board log flume vehicles and enter a story starring Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Mama Odie, the jazz-loving alligator Louis, and many other characters as they prepare for a Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans.

Although specifics about the ride have been very tightlipped, it has been announced that the ride will feature music from the movie, new audio-animatronics, and many of the original cast members from the film are reprising their roles.

Many Disney Park fans have been watching eagerly as progress has been made on the exterior of what used to be Splash Mountain. The former park icon was a rust-colored mountain covered with moss that had a tree stump sticking out of the top.

But the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure looks very different. The tree stump top has been removed, a water tower labeled “Tiana’s Foods” has been added, and the whole mountain exterior has been covered in greenery.

But what does the inside of the new attraction at the theme park look like?

Sneak Peak on the Ride

Well, Disney gave us a little sneak peek during the Disney 100: A Century of Dreams special. The special, which aired on ABC, explored the company’s rich history. It included a look back at Walt Disney (the person), the theme parks, the animation studio, and behind-the-scenes clips. It also featured commentary from Disney CEO Bob Iger, John Stamos, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Dick Van Dyke and many others.

Near the end of the two-hour special (less when streamed without commercials), there is a short segment about new theme park attractions, including Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Stills from the show (shown below as shared by Ashley Carter on X) display a bayou atmosphere inside the ride. A small cabin can be seen in the background.

Other Walt Disney Imagineering projects in the video include the Frozenland in Hong Kong Disney and Zootopia in Shanghai Disney. If you missed the special, you can view it on Hulu or Disney+ (if you have a subscription).

Both versions will open in 2024 at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland Resorts original Disneyland Park.

About Steven

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
