Should I Cancel My Trip To Disney? And Other FAQ's During This Viral Crisis

"Mirror mirror on the wall, should I cancel my trip to Disney World Resort?"  It would be nice if we had an all-knowing Disney prop to answer that million dollar question at this point.  While there are some questions we cannot answer,  there are a few things we do know and a couple we can surmise in this season.  Here are a few FAQ's we've been getting from DisneyFanatics and the best answers we have so far in this current crisis with Covid 19.

How Long Will Disney World Resort Stay Closed?

Since there's no precedent for the prolonged closure of Disney Parks, the best barometer we have to follow with regards to when Disney Parks in FL may reopen, is to take a few cues from the activities of Disney's park in Shanghai.  While Shanghai Disneyland park remains closed, a first step to a phased reopening has begun.  According to the Disney Company, Shanghai Disney Resort partially resumed operations on March 9th by opening a limited number of shopping, restaurant and recreational experiences in Disneytown, Wishing Star Park and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.  These resorts are operating at reduced hours of operation and under limited capacity.

Shanghai Disneyland closed January 26th, 2020.  With the multi-staged opening beginning about 6 weeks after initial shut down in the worlds most hard-hit areas by Covid, we could surmise that a partial opening of Disney World Resort in FL may happen in that same amount of time.  Factoring in additional federal and state mandates for health and safety, plus Florida being a hot zone for viral spread with all the Spring Break traffic, the parks may remain closed for a month or so.  But we may see the re-opening of Disney resorts and Disney Springs before that.  Ultimately, there is no definitive answer regarding when the parks will reopen but we are carefully monitoring Disney's announcements and updates concerning the closure.

Should I Cancel My Trip To Disney World Resort?

If your trip is scheduled in the next 2 months, you may want to consider rescheduling or cancelling.  If you're not ready to pull the plug on your vacation, perhaps you can continue monitoring the situation and heed the latest updates from Disney World or Disneyland as they're reaching out to guests who have booked trips.  Disney is waiving all change and cancelation fees up to reservation check-in dates of June 30th.  Should you decide to cancel your trip, you may want to do so through the My Disney Experience App under "My Plans" instead of calling Disney.  We suggest you make the decision of whether or not to cancel your trip based on what's best for your family.
