Six Flags Magic Mountain left many guests disappointed on Monday, September 8, when they arrived to find the park locked up with no warning. Despite the California theme park’s official website confirming it would be open that day, visitors were met with locked gates, empty ticket booths, and confusion as custodial workers tried to figure out why people were showing up to the shuttered amusement destination.
The mix-up began earlier in the week when Six Flags Magic Mountain’s website and mobile app showed that the park would be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. That schedule was a surprise to many since Six Flags parks typically operate on a weekend-only schedule after Labor Day. However, the official website confirms that the park will be open on Mondays starting September 15. Because of this, many guests assumed that Monday, September 8, was the first of the newly added operating days.

Unfortunately, when guests, like Redditor u/Pippinitis, arrived at Six Flags Magic Mountain that morning, they were met with an empty parking lot and locked turnstiles. The guest took to Reddit to share their experience, capturing the unfolding confusion.
Okay somebody screwed up at SixFlags.com
“The reinstatement of Mondays on the schedule was such a surprise, that even the SFMM staff didn’t know about it…,” the guest wrote. “Nobody’s here except the cleaning guys power washing the place… a few people who drove a few hours to get here were particularly upset…”
The Reddit user also posted a screenshot from the Six Flags app, showing that the park was supposed to be open on the morning of September 8. However, the app was later updated to reflect the closure.

Some fans claimed the park was never supposed to open on Monday, September 8. However, the Redditor wasn’t the only guest who saw the incorrect operating information from the official Six Flags channels.
“It might say that now, but when I and the other confused visitors arrived, we compared our apps and it said the park was open at 10:30 am…,” the Redditor replied to one commenter.

“I have an old legacy membership, so I’m just out a little bit of gas money,” they continued. “There were other folks who drove hours and took a day off work or pulled their kids out of school and they were visibly very upset. For those who had new MVP passes, I suggested they drive another hour to Knott’s since it’s open today. The ones who bought daily tickets online (for today!!!) pretty much got the shaft even if they could redeem them later.”
Six Flags Magic Mountain has not issued any public statement about the confusion or technical issues with its website and app. Guests hoping to experience the park’s attractions like X2, Twisted Colossus, and Tatsu will have to wait until the park reopens on Friday, September 12. The park’s annual Halloween event, Fright Fest, kicks off on Friday, September 19.
