Planning a Disney World trip in 2025? Brace yourself. Even with modest choices, a weeklong vacation for a family of four can easily cost thousands. The numbers climb fast between hotel, park tickets, Lightning Lane, food, souvenirs, and flights.
But what if you could earn that cash by catching snakes in the Everglades?
Florida’s Python Challenge might sound wild, but it’s a real competition—and one that could pay for your entire Disney getaway. Here’s why it’s worth considering.
1. Disney Vacation Costs Are Sky High
Let’s start with the basics. Hotel rates are up, even at value resorts. Park tickets now cost up to $200 per person daily, not including Lightning Lane access. Food and merchandise prices have also risen, making the average one-week trip cost between $7,000 and $10,000 when you include travel.

2. The Python Challenge Is Open to the Public
Florida’s annual Python Challenge runs this year from July 11 through July 20, and anyone over 18 can enter. All it takes is a $25 registration fee, a short online training course, and a species identification quiz. After that, you’re cleared to hunt invasive Burmese pythons in designated areas of the Everglades.
3. You Don’t Need Fancy Equipment
Participants must use non-motorized tools like snake hooks or tongs, and all removals must be humane. Once caught, the snakes are brought to official drop-off points. It’s a hands-on way to help the environment—and maybe help your wallet.

4. The Payout Is Real
The grand prize? $10,000 for the most pythons caught. There are also special awards for the longest snake, best novice, and top military participant. Last year, the challenge drew 857 people from 33 states and Canada, and the winner caught 20 snakes solo.
5. It Could Fully Fund Your Disney Trip
Let’s say you win big—$10,000 could cover everything: resort, tickets, Lightning Lane, meals, souvenirs, and flights. Even second-tier prizes could take a serious chunk out of your vacation budget.

A Risky Way to Save Big
The challenge isn’t exactly a relaxing vacation. It’s muggy, buggy, and you’ll be up close with giant snakes. But if you’re brave and looking for a creative way to make Disney more affordable, this might just be your golden ticket—straight from the swamp to Cinderella Castle.
