Sold Out: Premium Passes for Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Now Gone Effective Immediately

The Fourth of July is almost here, and that means two things at Walt Disney World: exclusive holiday entertainment and some of the year's highest prices for skipping attraction queues at Magic Kingdom.

As guests arrive to celebrate the United States' 250th birthday, Disney has once again increased the cost of Lightning Lane Premier Pass to reflect the surge in holiday demand. While the premium service reaches one of its highest summer prices this weekend, the increase won't last long, with lower rates expected once the holiday crowds begin to leave.

Interest in the service has already been strong. Several dates in late June completely sold out, showing that visitors weren't waiting until Independence Day itself to purchase Premier Pass access. Despite the growing cost, demand has remained high as many guests look for ways to experience more attractions during one of the resort's busiest weekends.

The biggest jump comes on July 4, when Magic Kingdom's Premier Pass costs $429 per person. For larger travel groups, the expense adds up quickly. A family of four would spend $1,716 before paying for theme park admission, hotels, food, or souvenirs, making the service one of the largest optional purchases available during a Disney vacation.

Although overall attendance has moderated compared with previous years, Disney continues to generate additional revenue through premium offerings. Lightning Lane Single Pass, Multi Pass, and Premier Pass all contribute to that strategy by giving guests paid alternatives to traditional standby queues.

Guests purchasing the service over the holiday weekend will encounter a sliding pricing scale. Thursday's pass is listed at $399, Friday rises to $419, and Saturday, July 4, tops out at $429. By Sunday the price returns to $419 before settling back to $399 throughout much of the following three weeks. From July 2 through July 4, the Magic Kingdom Lightning Lane Premier Pass is now sold out, per WDWMagic tracking data.

Those higher prices coincide with one of Magic Kingdom's most popular weekends, when visitors gather for patriotic festivities and limited-time fireworks presentations.

Premier Pass includes unlimited Lightning Lane access throughout the operating day for many of the park's biggest attractions. Eligible experiences include TRON Lightcycle Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan's Flight, Jungle Cruise, and several other attractions across the park.

Even with the Independence Day increase, the current pricing doesn't surpass Disney's previous record. Since the product launched, Magic Kingdom's Premier Pass has fluctuated between $329 and $449, meaning this year's holiday rate remains below the highest amount guests have seen.

Anyone hoping to experience the parks while paying less for Premier Pass may want to plan a visit after the holiday rush, when prices return to their lower seasonal level. Guests should also remember that Disney periodically revises the attractions included with Premier Pass, making it worthwhile to review the latest list before finalizing a reservation.

Of course, plenty of visitors will spend the holiday enjoying the special entertainment rather than focusing on attraction wait times. Walt Disney World has planned exclusive offerings across multiple parks to mark the nation's 250th anniversary.

Magic Kingdom will once again present Disney's Celebrate America! — A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky in place of Happily Ever After, while EPCOT guests can watch Heartbeat of Freedom immediately following Luminous The Symphony of Us. Both fireworks presentations are exclusive to the Independence Day celebration and remain a major draw for holiday visitors.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
