Disney+ is preparing to expand the Star Wars animated universe once again with Maul – Shadow Lord, which is set to premiere on April 6 with a two-episode opening event.
The series follows the infamous Maul, voiced by Sam Witwer (The Clone Wars, Rebels), as he attempts to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.

However, the story isn’t solely about Maul; it also introduces a new Jedi, Devon Izara, voiced by Gideon Adlon, whose path is shaped by survival, conflict, and the lingering shadows of Order 66.
Ashoka Tano and Devon Izara
Following the original trailer that premiered a few weeks ago, fans immediately noticed parallels between Devon Izara and Ahsoka Tano, the Togruta Jedi who first appeared in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars and was voiced by Ashley Eckstein across multiple appearances in animation and beyond.
Though Devon is a Twi’lek (although they share some physical similarities with the Togruta), her story seemingly mirrors Ahsoka’s: she confronts Maul and is forced to make impossible choices in a galaxy under threat.

While Ahsoka’s rise to prominence took years across animation, novels, and live-action—including Rosario Dawson’s portrayal in The Mandalorian Season 2 and the 2023 spinoff Ahsoka (which now has a second season in the works)—Devon has the advantage of debuting alongside an iconic villain, giving her story immediate weight with fans.
StarWars.com describes Devon as “conflicted…living in hiding to survive in challenging times,” highlighting the depth and nuance Lucasfilm aims to bring to its new characters.
Now, the second trailer for the upcoming series gives us a closer look at her character:
Who Else Is In Shadow Lord?
Maul – Shadow Lord brings a rich ensemble cast to life. In addition to Witwer (Maul) and Gideon Adlon (Devon), it also stars Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots, Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast, Chris Diamantopoulos as Looti Vario, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, David W. Collins as Spybot, Steve Blum as Icarus, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki, and Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson.
Beyond the cast, the series continues the animation style established in The Clone Wars, following on from The Bad Batch (2021) and the Tales of anthologies.
