Natalie Portman Could Appear in ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2, Comments on ‘Star Wars’ Return

Natalie Portman might not be done with Star Wars after all.

First introduced as Padmé Amidala in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace (1999), Portman played a central role in George Lucas’s prequel trilogy, appearing in all three films and forming the emotional core of Anakin Skywalker’s tragic transformation into the feared Sith Lord, Darth Vader. Her last appearance in the galaxy far, far away came in Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith (2005) — but that was two decades ago.

Now, in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight while promoting her new film Fountain of Youth, Portman was asked about returning to Star Wars, and she’s not ruling anything out. “Listen, nobody’s asked me,” she said. “But I’m open to everything, you know? Life’s only fun if you’re open to every possibility.” Watch the clip below:

It’s a familiar sentiment for those keeping tabs on the actress. In 2023, she told GQ “no one’s ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.” Earlier this year, Kristian Harloff claimed that Portman was “close to reaching a deal” to return to the franchise. That report was quickly walked back by Star Wars News Net, whose own source denied the claim outright.

Still, the interest from fans hasn’t faded. With multiple projects in development at Lucasfilm — including Ahsoka Season 2 — there are opportunities for Padmé to reappear.

In fact, Ahsoka is the most likely. Hayden Christensen returned as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the first season (having already done so in Obi-Wan Kenobi the year prior), appearing via the World Between Worlds. A second season could deepen that storyline, and a Padmé cameo would make sense given her importance to Anakin’s past.

Never say never — anything’s possible in the faraway galaxy. But even more so in the World Between Worlds.
