Surprise Shift in Disney’s Plans Could Affect Your Next Trip

If you’ve been keeping an eye on Disney news before your upcoming vacation, you may have noticed something odd. Disney’s Yacht Club Resort was set to undergo room renovations in early 2025, but now—poof—it’s no longer mentioned on the website. Back in April 2024, Disney shared that “some guest rooms” would be refurbished from January to May 2025. But as of this month, that note has disappeared. Instead, the site only mentions general refurbishments happening at the Yacht and Beach Club resorts. So, what gives? Disney hasn’t said anything yet, leaving guests wondering if plans have changed or if it was a mistake to post the original announcement early.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the closure of Stormalong Bay, which runs until June 2025. If you’re staying at either resort, you’ll miss out on the sprawling pool area that feels more like a mini water park. Whether you loved the lazy river or the sandy-bottom pool, this closure is definitely a bummer for fans.

Of course, Disney World’s refurbishments aren’t limited to the Yacht Club. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom is closed while crews work on a major track refurbishment. This fan-favorite coaster has no reopening date yet, so families and thrill-seekers will have to wait for its return.

Over in Animal Kingdom, Kali River Rapids is temporarily closed for its usual winter maintenance. While it’s expected to reopen after the cooler months, it’s still a letdown for those hoping for a splashy adventure.

If you’re staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, you’ll find that the Fuentes del Morro Pool is also closed for maintenance, though smaller leisure pools are available for guests. And if you’re heading to Disney’s BoardWalk, you’ll notice some retail locations undergoing phased renovations that are expected to last until May 2025.

These closures and refurbishments may sound overwhelming, but Disney is always working to enhance the guest experience. If you plan ahead and stay flexible, there’s still plenty to enjoy—even without some of these beloved attractions. Whether you’re dining at the Yacht Club’s Ale & Compass or strolling around Crescent Lake, the magic is still there—it just might take a different shape during your visit.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
