New EPCOT Attraction Suddenly Closed at Disney World

EPCOT’s newest update to Test Track officially launched on July 22, 2025, but for guests attending the Disney After Hours event just days later, the experience came to a halt.

The newly updated attraction was closed throughout the After Hours event on July 31, according to signage shared by Kenny the Pirate. One sign read: “Test Track Presented by General Motors will be available for limited hours tonight.” Many attendees were caught off guard, as the attraction isn’t currently listed on the official After Hours lineup despite the availability of other major experiences like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

This closure followed a wave of excitement just over a week earlier, when the attraction officially reopened to regular park guests. The new version of Test Track, presented by General Motors, draws on design elements from the original World of Motion while introducing updated technology, visual effects, and a more streamlined ride narrative. The refreshed experience celebrates EPCOT’s ongoing focus on motion, progress, and innovation.

Before opening day, Annual Passholders were among the first to experience the transformation during preview days held on July 13–16 and July 18–19. Entry required use of the My Disney Experience app’s virtual queue, with distribution windows at 7:00 a.m. (with park reservation) and 1:00 p.m. (without one). On July 13, demand was especially high—the queue filled within three seconds. Later in the preview period, guests reported that cast members were also allowing entry with credential checks, creating more flexibility.

The week of opening brought additional access. On July 20 and 21, the ride quietly entered soft opening mode, using a traditional standby queue and giving early access to the general public before the official launch.

On the morning of July 22, excitement ramped up quickly. Just 15 minutes after EPCOT opened, the standby wait time for Test Track reached 150 minutes, stretching through World Discovery and extending near the Creations Shop.

Along with its physical redesign, Test Track is now part of EPCOT’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass tier structure. Having replaced Soarin’ Around the World as a top-tier selection, it’s available to guests as a Lightning Lane option or via standby. Here’s the current tier breakdown:

Choose one from:

Frozen Ever After

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

Test Track

Select two (or all three) from:

Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival

Journey into Imagination with Figment

The reopening of Test Track follows a temporary closure beginning June 17, 2024, during which the attraction received its major update. The new version maintains a link to EPCOT’s history while enhancing the experience with smoother transitions and upgraded effects.

While EPCOT continues to evolve, over at Magic Kingdom, another debut is drawing attention. The Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away Parade made its official debut on July 20, following two soft preview nights. Now running at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., the nighttime parade has added a new chapter to summer entertainment across the resort.

Whether enjoying the latest innovations in motion at EPCOT or experiencing new evening entertainment at Magic Kingdom, summer at Walt Disney World Resort offers something for fans of every kind. Just be sure to check the event listings before you go—some attractions may not be available during special ticketed hours.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
