The 10 Things That We Love About Animal Kingdom’s Africa

Harambe Drummers

When we visit Animal Kingdom, we enjoy walking around the entire park and seeing all of the different areas for guests to enjoy. Our favorite area to spend time in and enjoy is the Africa section of Animal Kingdom. With recent additions to Africa, there is even more to see and do, but here are our top ten things we love about this area!

10 – Pangani Forest Exploration Trail – guests can explore this self-guided experience after disembarking from Kilimanjaro Safaris. Guests can discover hippos, gorillas, and a bevy of exotic birds. This is a great experience because you can take as long as you’d like exploring all of the exhibit, as well as double back to see your favorites more than once!

9 – Festival of the Lion King – this show is sure to get everyone tapping their toes along to the music. During the 30-minute performance, guests will greeted by Timon, Pumba, and the king of the jungle, Simba. The performances are quick and feature amazing combinations of dancing, acrobatics, and song. Shows are performed at the top of every hour and the auditorium housing the show is a wonderful place to take a break from the late afternoon sun and heat!

8 – Zuri’s Sweet Shop – one of the additions to Harambe Market is this sweet shop that features Disney classics, but also some inventive creations that adds to the exotic flavor of the Africa section of the park. The shop is attached to the Mombasa Marketplace and is definitely worth a look on your next trek through Africa!

7 – Wildlife Express Train – this train departs from outside the Harambe Market area and transports them to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Even if guests don’t want to experience what Rafiki’s Planet Watch has to offer, the train ride is very enjoyable and relaxing and offers some unique views of the Animal Kingdom. Very similar to a relaxing ride around the Magic Kingdom, this train ride is not to be missed!

6 – Tusker House – our favorite dining location at Animal Kingdom is here at Tusker House. Characters are at every meal and entertain guests while they enjoy a widely diverse buffet of classic favorites, but also exotic selections. We also like how before entering the restaurant, guests can have their photo taken with the rest of their party as a keepsake of their trip! With the recent changes and additions to the PhotoPass program, we always make sure to grab a picture here!

5 – Kilimanjaro Safaris – guests travel through all different areas of the African continent on this attraction. Guests can see hippos, lions, flamingos, elephants, giraffes, and many more. We are getting excited to see what the nighttime safari tour is going to be like and to see what animals we will encounter!

4 – Harambe Market – Harambe Market is a new counter-service dining area that features kiosks that serve a variety of different food items – Karubi-style ribs, chicken, curry spiced sausage corn dogs, as well as African wine and beer. We love the location and the atmosphere at this location. Helpful trick – guests can get any menu item at any window – you can save some valuable time this way!

3 – Drummers of Harambe – we love this entertainment in the heart of Harambe! We will grab a drink or a snack, find some shade and take in the show. The show is a perfect length to allow us to recharge our batteries before continuing on for more fun in Africa!

2 – Mombasa Marketplace – while we buy our Disney-themed souvenirs at the stores on Discovery Island, Mombasa Marketplace is a store to marvel at the artisans in front who are doing the hand-carved souvenirs. It is amazing what they are able to do with their tools and we are always impressed on how quickly they are able to make their crafts, too!

1 – Dawa Bar – this has always been our favorite hidden gem of the entire park. Dawa Bar is located in front of the host stand for Tusker House. It features covered seating, a good view of the Harambe Village, and features an amazing drink menu. On a recent trip, we were able to sample the positively tasty Beermosa – a wonderful concoction of beer and fruit juices – it sounds weird, but trust us, your tastebuds will love it. Just make sure you get there early since the drink isn’t available all day!

While the Africa section doesn’t have any thrill rides, it holds a special place for us because of all the things guests can see and do while there. Do you agree? What is your favorite thing to do when visiting Africa in Animal Kingdom?
