The Hidden Advantage Deluxe Guests Have at Animal Kingdom

Disney doesn’t hand out extra park time very often anymore — especially at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

That’s why this upcoming Extended Evening Hours night in May feels like a bigger deal than it might seem on the surface. On May 4, 2026, guests staying at select Walt Disney World resorts will be able to remain inside Animal Kingdom from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., after the park closes to regular day guests.

Animal Kingdom doesn’t host these late-night offerings nearly as often as Magic Kingdom or EPCOT. Because of the animals and the park’s operating schedule, it typically wraps up earlier than the others. So when it does stay open later — even just two extra hours — it changes the feel of the entire park.

And that’s really the point.

What Makes This Night Different

Animal Kingdom at night hits differently.

Pandora glows. Expedition Everest looks sharper against a dark sky. The pathways feel quieter, calmer, almost like you’re seeing a different version of the park.

During this Extended Evening Hours event, several major attractions will remain open, including Avatar Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, Na’vi River Journey, and Zootopia: Better Zoogether!

That’s a strong lineup. Especially Flight of Passage, which routinely carries one of the longest wait times in the park during normal hours. Riding it without a massive standby line hovering over your head? That alone can make the perk worth it.

Who Actually Gets In

This benefit is reserved for guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts, and a small group of select partner hotels like the Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve, and Shades of Green.

That means not every on-site guest qualifies. Value and moderate resort guests do not receive access to Extended Evening Hours.

And whether you love that system or not, it does create a noticeable crowd difference during the event. Fewer eligible guests typically means shorter waits and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Why It’s Quietly One of the Best Perks

Over the past few years, Disney has adjusted a lot of resort perks. Some disappeared. Some were reworked. Some became paid add-ons.

Extended Evening Hours remains one of the few perks that still feels meaningful.

It gives you breathing room.

It gives you flexibility.

It gives you time.

Two extra hours in a lower-capacity park can allow you to knock out multiple headliners without stacking Lightning Lane purchases all day long. For some families, that can completely reshape how they plan their trip.

For now, May 4 is the only date currently visible on the calendar. But more could be added as additional May hours are released.

If you’re staying at an eligible resort that week, it might be worth circling that evening on your itinerary.

Sometimes the most valuable part of a Disney vacation isn’t a new ride or a flashy announcement.

Sometimes it’s just two quiet hours after the crowds leave.
