Attention Single Riders: Disney World Rolls Out Exciting New Update to App and Wait Times!

Walt Disney World Resort is a place where magic happens at every corner, but as the theme parks grow busier, so do the wait times. Whether you’re planning a day in the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, one thing that can often make your visit feel less magical is spending hours in line.

Fortunately, Disney has introduced a solution for those looking to maximize their time in the parks: the Single Rider Line.

The Single Rider Line has long been a favorite among visitors who want to enjoy the rides without spending too much time waiting. This feature allows individual guests to join a separate line from the main standby and Lightning Lane lines to fill empty seats on certain rides.

While the option was available on a few rides, Disney has now made a major update that will help guests navigate the parks more efficiently.

What Is the Single Rider Line?

For those who may not be familiar, the Single Rider Line allows guests to bypass the main queues in favor of using open seats on rides, particularly those that are highly popular and frequently at capacity.

This can save a significant amount of time, especially on rides with long wait times, by filling up unoccupied spots in ride vehicles that might otherwise go unused. However, there are a few things to keep in mind before jumping into the Single Rider Line.

First, guests using the Single Rider Line should be prepared to ride separately from their party, as the line’s main goal is to fill open seats. This is an ideal option for solo travelers or those who don’t mind splitting up during the ride.

If you’re hoping to ride with friends or family, the traditional standby line might be a better option.

At present, the following attractions at Walt Disney World Resort offer a Single Rider Line:

  • Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run (Hollywood Studios)
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith (Hollywood Studios)
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (Hollywood Studios)
  • Expedition Everest (Animal Kingdom)
  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (EPCOT)

These are some of the busiest rides in the parks, so the Single Rider option can be an absolute time-saver.

Major Update to the Single Rider Line

As of now, Disney has rolled out a major update that makes the Single Rider Line even more accessible to guests. The wait time boards throughout the parks now display a clear “S” next to the rides that offer the Single Rider option.

This is a helpful change, as it makes it much easier for visitors to spot where they can use the Single Rider Line without having to ask cast members or search the park map for information.

The update also extends to the My Disney Experience app, which now includes a feature that indicates which rides are offering the Single Rider Line.

How Does the Single Rider Line Work?

While it’s an excellent way to cut down on wait times, there are some important things to keep in mind when using the Single Rider Line. Here are a few things you should know before you go:

  • Solo travelers or groups willing to split up: The Single Rider Line is perfect for solo visitors or those who don’t mind riding separately from their party. If you prefer to stay together, this option might not be the best fit.

  • Boarding requirements: Just like the regular standby or Lightning Lane lines, Single Rider guests must meet all ride requirements. You will need to follow the same safety rules and ride restrictions.

  • No guaranteed seats or ride companions: While the Single Rider Line can speed up your experience, there is no guarantee of immediate boarding or choice of seat, and special seating requests may not be accommodated. For example, those with accessibility needs may still need to use the regular lines.

  • Availability and variations: Participating attractions and wait times may vary, and not every ride offers the Single Rider option all day. Be sure to check both the wait time boards and the My Disney Experience app for up-to-date information.

What’s Next for the Single Rider Line?

Currently, the number of rides offering Single Rider access is somewhat limited, but Disney has made it clear that they’re always looking for ways to improve the guest experience. While there are no immediate plans to expand the Single Rider option to more attractions, it’s possible that more rides will be added in the future as Disney continues to enhance the guest experience.

For example, Test Track at EPCOT used to offer a Single Rider Line before it closed for updates. Fans are hopeful that once the ride reopens, the Single Rider option will return.

As Walt Disney World continues to explore new ways to make park visits more enjoyable, there’s always a chance that more attractions will begin offering this time-saving option.

If you’re visiting Walt Disney World and want to avoid long waits without sacrificing your experience, the Single Rider Line is a fantastic tool to have at your disposal. Just remember that it’s ideal for solo travelers or those who don’t mind riding separately from their party. For families or groups who want to stay together, the regular standby or Lightning Lane lines are still the best option.
