We’ve known this was coming for a while, but now we know precisely when it will happen. Last September, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, announced significant changes to Walt Disney World, including an update to EPCOT’s Test Track.

Last month, rumors started spreading that cast members were being moved to different attractions at Walt Disney World to prepare for the year-long closure of EPCOT’s Test Track. Today, Disney World announced Test Track’s last day of operation and shared some new concept art with fans.
Disney announced that Test Track will close on June 17 for its year-long refurbishment. The new concept art shows a completely reimagined entrance to the pavilion, complete with a throwback to the World of Motion.
When Disney announced the new Test Track in September, they said:
Imagineers along with teams from Chevrolet are reaching back into history for inspiration—from the original World of Motion—and bringing that spirit of optimism to the next iteration of the Test Track attraction!

Test Track began its life at the World of Motion before that was torn down to make room for “Test Track Presented by General Motors” in 1999. In 2012, the attraction became Test Track, which was presented by Chevrolet.
Test Track allows guests to build and design their vehicles in the Chevrolet Design Center and then test their designs in a series of real-world scenarios similar to the ones Chevrolet puts its designs through. The ride culminates with the speed test, taking guests around the course at 65 miles per hour, making it the fastest ride at the Walt Disney World Resort.
The years-long refurbishment of ECPOT was recently completed, creating four separate lands: World Celebration, World Nature, World Discovery, and World Showcase.
With the addition of this attraction update at EPCOT, Disney World will have new projects at Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and Magic Kingdom. Last week, we learned that Disney World filed permits for new work at Animal Kingdom, creating an Encanto-themed Central/South American Land and replacing Dinosaur with Indiana Jones Adventures.
Yesterday, Disney announced they were filing permits for an update to the Magic Kingdom. The new project, “Beyond Big Thunder,” will be the “largest” expansion of the Magic Kingdom ever.
To complete the Disney World refurbishment quadfecta, Disney just needs to announce an update to Hollywood Studios. It’s the only Disney Park that has yet to announce a significant project.
