You may remember in September, the 2023 D23 fan event at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida dropped some major announcements. There was plenty of new information, considerable changes, and reveals involving many rides and lands across the entire Orlando theme park. Among the considerable disclosures is a dramatic reimagining of an iconic EPCOT attraction.
The History of Test Track
Test Track is a well-known attraction at the World Discovery location in EPCOT at Walt Disney World. It opened in 1999 as “Test Track Presented by General Motors” and simulated various vehicle testing procedures. In 2012, it got a major makeover and reopened as “Test Track Presented by Chevrolet.” This revamped version allowed guests to design their virtual concept cars before experiencing their performance in different test scenarios.
Today, Test Track is all about designing and testing vehicles. Guests start in the “Design Studio,” where they create custom cars with touchscreen displays. Then, they board SimCars for a high-speed test drive through various environments, including a track where they can reach speeds up to 65 mph. After the ride, guests can see how their designs performed compared to others. It’s a popular attraction that combines creativity and excitement, fitting in with EPCOT’s focus on technology and innovation.
Test Track Reimagining
During the D23 Parks and Resorts announcement panel, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Parks, Experiences, and Products, revealed some major changes coming to Walt Disney World. Among the reveals was a confirmation that EPCOT’s Test Track attraction would soon be undergoing a reimagining. While not the first time the ride has gotten a makeover, this looks to be the most dramatic one to date.
Disney stated:
“Imagineers, along with teams from Chevrolet, are reaching back into history for inspiration—from the original World of Motion—and bringing that spirit of optimism to the next iteration of the Test Track attraction!”
At EPCOT, Test Track will be reimagined!

There wasn’t much additional information to go with this bombshell. The changes will likely be influenced by World of Motion, an attraction previously housed at EPCOT. Furthermore, Disney provided a concept art piece to preview the potential new look and changes. It is unknown when Test Track will officially go down to facilitate this reimagining.
Many fans are happy to hear this announcement, as they have considered Test Track a lackluster experience compared to other offerings in the park lately. Disney Fanatic will continue to update the Test Track reimagining as new information is presented.
