The curtain may have fallen on MuppetVision 3D earlier this summer, but Disney has already hinted that the beloved troupe of felt and fur is far from finished at its Florida parks. The Muppets, once a cornerstone of Hollywood Studios, are now preparing for a louder, faster, and decidedly different return.
Fans had feared this moment for years. Rumors of the attraction’s closure had circulated widely, with Disney enthusiasts debating how long the show could survive in a park increasingly dominated by blockbuster franchises.
When Disney finally announced its closure and Muppet*Vision 3D said a permanent farewell on June 7, many felt it was the end of an era.
The loss hit particularly hard because of the show’s legacy. As one of the final projects overseen by Jim Henson and veteran performer Richard Hunt, it held deep sentimental value. Guests flocked to Hollywood Studios in its final days, some dressed in Muppet-themed attire, waiting in long lines to give the characters a proper farewell.
A New Stage for an Old Cast
Disney, however, appears unwilling to let the franchise vanish entirely. On National Roller Coaster Day, Fozzie Bear made a video appearance at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, wandering through the attraction while dropping his signature puns.
“Why is Space Mountain such a good secret keeper? Because it keeps everyone else in the dark,” he joked, in a short segment that revealed little but served as a clear nod to the ride’s future.
That future, Disney has confirmed, will see Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster reimagined in 2026 with a new theme: the Muppets’ Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Brightly colored concept art teased redesigned ride vehicles, suggesting that the chaotic spirit of the Muppets will translate into a high-speed indoor coaster experience.
For fans still mourning the loss of Muppet*Vision 3D, the update represented a lifeline. It was the first sign that the company still values the characters enough to give them a marquee attraction in a park increasingly dominated by Star Wars and Toy Story.
Wider Shifts Across Walt Disney World
The overhaul is part of Disney’s most ambitious wave of changes in years. At Hollywood Studios, a new Monsters, Inc. land is in development, complete with Disney World’s first suspended roller coaster, themed dining, and a stage show. The long-standing Star Wars Launch Bay is set to be cleared for The Walt Disney Studios, an area modeled after Disney’s historic Burbank lot.
Elsewhere on property, Animal Kingdom is gradually dismantling DinoLand U.S.A. in favor of Tropical Americas, featuring Encanto and Indiana Jones attractions. Its Tree of Life theater will debut Zootopia: Better Zoogether later this year. Over at Magic Kingdom, Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are gone, making room for a new Cars Land and a separate Disney Villains area currently in early development.
The Muppets’ revival may not ease the frustration of those who wanted Muppet*Vision 3D preserved. While Disney has archived the attraction’s film and animatronics, it’s unclear whether the show will ever resurface. For now, the company appears more intent on weaving the characters into new, high-energy formats rather than preserving their stage shows.
That strategy underscores Disney’s broader philosophy: honoring nostalgia while steering aggressively into reinvention. Whether audiences will embrace the Muppets as rock stars on a roller coaster remains to be seen, but it guarantees the iconic characters are not fading quietly from Hollywood Studios.
