This Grand Floridian Feature Is Suddenly Off-Limits

Guests visiting Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa may notice that one of the quieter details inside the resort has temporarily disappeared from view. Inside the lobby of The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, the Mary Poppins fountain is currently blocked off as refurbishment work takes place.

The closure isn’t a dramatic construction project or a major redesign. Instead, it appears to be a routine refresh meant to keep the decorative feature in good condition. Still, for guests familiar with the space, the change is noticeable.

The fountain normally sits as a centerpiece within The Villas lobby, offering a playful nod to Disney storytelling inside one of Walt Disney World’s most elegant hotels.

Plants Now Surround the Fountain

Right now, visitors can’t approach the fountain. The area has been surrounded by tall potted ferns placed in white planters that act as a temporary barrier.

The plants create a natural wall around the fountain, blocking the view while refurbishment work happens behind the scenes. Guests can still glimpse equipment positioned behind the greenery, suggesting that work is actively underway.

Disney has not released specific details about what the refurbishment involves. However, based on what can be seen in the lobby, the work appears to be standard maintenance rather than a full redesign of the space.

Small projects like this are common throughout Walt Disney World. Decorative elements, especially those located inside resorts, require periodic upkeep to ensure they remain clean, polished, and functioning properly.

A Subtle Tribute to Mary Poppins (1964)

The fountain itself is themed to the classic Disney film Mary Poppins (1964). Its design features the famous animated penguin waiters from the film, depicted as they prepare for a tea party.

The penguins are shown carrying trays, teapots, and cups as part of the playful scene.

While the Grand Floridian is known for its Victorian-inspired elegance, touches like this fountain add a bit of Disney charm to the environment. The characters blend storytelling with the resort’s upscale design.

Many guests walking through the lobby may not immediately notice the reference. But Disney fans who recognize the penguins from the film often pause to admire the whimsical scene.

The fountain has been part of The Villas since the building opened in 2013.

Maintaining the Grand Floridian Experience

The Grand Floridian is known as one of Walt Disney World’s flagship deluxe resorts. With its grand lobby, chandeliers, and waterfront views, it’s designed to feel luxurious from the moment guests arrive.

Because of that reputation, Disney regularly maintains the resort’s decorative features. Fountains, statues, and themed displays are cleaned, repaired, and refreshed as needed.

Even small changes like this refurbishment help ensure the resort continues to meet the expectations guests have when they stay there.

Disney has not shared a reopening date for the fountain yet. But once the refurbishment is complete, the penguin tea party scene will likely return to its place as a charming detail inside The Villas lobby.

For now, the temporary wall of greenery simply marks another quiet update happening behind the scenes at Walt Disney World.
