This Is NOT the Day To Visit Magic Kingdom

Sometimes, it’s all about timing. And when it comes to Walt Disney World, picking the wrong day can turn even the most magical trip into a maze of wait times and wall-to-wall crowds.

That’s exactly the risk for anyone planning to visit on October 20, 2025.

Between a massive tech conference and one of the busiest Halloween party nights of the season, October 20 has all the ingredients for a peak crowd meltdown. Here’s what to know before you go—and how to beat the system.

Magic Kingdom’s Party Problem

Let’s start with the big one. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is in full swing, and that night’s event is expected to be sold out. As always, the party brings magic: candy, spooky overlays, fireworks, and rare characters.

But there’s a catch: the park closes early to everyone who didn’t buy a ticket. So unless you shelled out for the party, you’ll be asked to leave by 6 p.m.—after dealing with the slow buildup of crowds all day.

People hoping to ride every classic attraction before being pushed out will be jam-packing the place from open until early evening. Add in the party crowd showing up by 4 p.m., and you’ve got a recipe for chaos.

Tech Conference Traffic Incoming

Now throw in the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo, which runs October 20–23. This is no small meetup—it’s a conference that draws in thousands of tech professionals who stay at the Swan and Dolphin and love squeezing in park time before or after sessions.

Historically, this conference has included full park buyouts. That might not happen this year, but the crowd levels around EPCOT and the nearby resorts will absolutely reflect it. Transportation will be slower, restaurants will be more crowded, and the vibe will be… hectic.

What To Avoid and Where To Pivot

If your current plan has you waking up bright and early to head into Magic Kingdom on October 20—hit pause. Consider these alternatives:

  • Avoid the Magic Kingdom madness: Unless you have a party ticket, skip the park. There’s too much overlap between day guests and eventgoers.

  • Go early, leave early: If you’re dead set on visiting a park, rope drop Animal Kingdom or EPCOT and call it a day by mid-afternoon.

  • Go off the beaten path: Use this day to enjoy resort hopping, ride the Skyliner loop, or book a fancy lunch at Steakhouse 71 and chill.

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
