Guests Are Having a Big Problem With TRON’s Virtual Queue

On April 4, Walt Disney World Resort opened its newest ride at the Magic Kingdom — TRON Lightcycle/Run. After being announced nearly six years ago and enduring five years of construction, Guests were finally able to board their Lightcycle bikes and journey into the Grid. Cast Member previews and a soft opening began last month. Now, the new attraction is open to all Guests visiting the Magic Kingdom. As with other new Disney attractions, TRON Lightcycle/Run is utilizing a virtual queue that opens up twice a day.

TRON’s virtual queue opens at 7 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. As those who have used the virtual queue know, if you manage to get a spot in the queue, you get a boarding group number. You are then sometimes given an estimated wait time, so you can guess when you will board. This is supposed to help Guests plan their day around when they expect to board TRON. Unfortunately, Guests who manage to get a boarding group are finding it even more difficult to make plans.

Twitter user Alicia Stella was able to get a boarding group before the ride’s official opening. She was given an estimated boarding time and then proceeded about her day. However, her boarding group time then jumped and was 2 hours before she was expecting to board.

How can you require guests arrive for their Boarding Group within the allotted hour if you can’t even tell them when that’ll be? I get that it’s an estimated callback time, but a two hour difference?

Makes it hard to plan your day if your day keeps changing.

Guest Chandler Desrochers had the same problem. He was able to snag a boarding group and planned around that. His plans were messed up when there was a huge jump in his wait time as well.

How the hell is anyone supposed to get to their boarding group on time if the time can change in an instant?

Ugh, and I was supposed to meet Jacob at Big Thunder Mountain at 9:30, we are so friggin screwed.

The big problem is that Disney is having its Cast Members follow relatively strict rules when it comes to boarding groups. Many people want to ride TRON at night, and Disney does not want people waiting until it’s dark to finally get in line. So, when your boarding group is called, the My Disney Experience app lets you know how long you have to take your place in line. If a Guest misses their callback time, then Disney Cast Members have the right to turn them away from the queue.

According to theme park reporter Scott Gustin, the My Disney Experience app is no longer telling Guests an approximate wait time until their boarding group is called. The app will not tell you which boarding groups are loading. This should hopefully give Guests an easier time making plans, as they know how close their boarding group is to being called.

I’m not sure if it’s a glitch or intentional – but TRON boarding groups are not showing an estimated wait today. New vs. old:

This is not the first issue that Guests have had with Disney’s newest roller coaster. Many are calling TRON Lightcycle/Run Walt Disney World’s most restrictive ride. However, it is not peoples’ waist size that appears to be the problem. The way the restraints come down, people with larger calves are finding themselves unable to fit. For Guests who do not fit on the regular bikes, TRON has modified seating in the last row.

Disney has not said how long it will continue to utilize the virtual queue for TRON. For those who are unable to join the virtual queue, an individual lightning lane reservation can be purchased.
