Universal Studios has officially filed a demolition permit for the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, marking a significant change for the theme park. This permit, first discovered by Universal Park scooper Alicia Stella and her team of fans, confirms the coaster will come down this year. Its approval comes as the park prepares to transition from an aging attraction that has served visitors for over 15 years to a new project that is yet to be revealed.

As per the announcement, Rip Ride Rockit will cease operations in September 2025. Following its closure, the demolition will begin, allowing the park to prepare the site for whatever new attraction may follow. This timeline provides both staff and guests time to say their goodbyes to a ride that has provided thrills and excitement since its inception.

Over the years, guest feedback regarding Rip Ride Rockit has been increasingly critical. Riders often reported that the experience was far from smooth, citing the ride’s roughness as a common complaint. With such a portfolio of negative reviews piling up, Universal recognized the need for change in order to continue to meet the expectations of their audience.

In addition to guest complaints about discomfort, the ride has faced frequent downtime and operational issues. Breakdowns have become more common, which not only leads to dissatisfaction among guests but can also negatively impact the park’s reputation. These factors contributed to the strategic decision of the management to ultimately shut down the ride rather than continuously attempting repairs.

Ultimately, the decision to replace Rip Ride Rockit suggests a proactive approach by Universal management. Rather than pouring resources into a coaster that has repeatedly shown signs of distress, Universal seems to have opted to pivot toward the future. This decision reflects an understanding of the park’s need to progress, ensuring that it thrives in a rapidly evolving theme park landscape.

As guests bid farewell to Rip Ride Rockit, they can look forward to the imminent opening of Epic Universe in May 2025. This innovative park promises to redefine the Orlando experience with a vast array of attractions, rides, and immersive experiences. As Universal rolls out its new creation, they hope to inject a fresh sense of excitement into visitors and maintain their competitive edge.

Expectations are high for what Epic Universe will bring. Anchored by beloved brands such as Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, and Super Mario, the new park will introduce cutting-edge technology and storytelling techniques that will capture the imaginations of guests, young and old. The anticipation of new attractions serves to alleviate some nostalgia and disappointment surrounding the closure of Rip Ride Rockit.
