Universal fans finally have some great news for this coming winter.
Three familiar experiences that have been gone for extended periods are preparing to return between late fall and winter. One finally has a firm reopening date after disappearing for most of the year, while two others remain scheduled to return sometime this winter.
Those aren't the only projects worth watching, either. Universal Studios Florida also has a major new attraction under construction, and while Universal has broadly confirmed when it will arrive, one important detail remains a mystery.
For anyone planning a Universal Orlando vacation over the next several months, here's where things stand.
A 10-Month Wait Is Almost Over
Jurassic Park River Adventure will be the first of these missing experiences to return.
The Islands of Adventure attraction closed on January 5 for an extensive refurbishment, beginning an absence that has stretched across most of 2026.
Universal has now set November 20 as the reopening date.
That means guests visiting around Thanksgiving and into the Christmas season should once again have access to one of the major attractions inside Jurassic Park.
The ride starts relatively calmly before sending guests into a much more dangerous encounter with dinosaurs. Of course, everything eventually leads to the attraction's massive final drop.
By the time Jurassic Park River Adventure reopens, guests will have gone without it for more than 10 months.
Its return should help Islands of Adventure regain a major piece of its attraction lineup. Meanwhile, Universal Studios Florida has two lengthy closures of its own that should also end soon.
A Longtime Dining Option Is Returning
Finnegan's Bar & Grill has been unavailable at Universal Studios Florida, temporarily removing a familiar table-service restaurant from the park.
Located across from Revenge of the Mummy, the Irish-American restaurant has long provided visitors with an indoor place to sit down, cool off, and grab a meal during the day.
Universal hasn't given Finnegan's a specific reopening date.
Instead, the company currently lists its return for winter 2026.
That leaves guests without a specific day to circle on the calendar, but it does establish that the closure remains temporary. Visitors heading to Universal Studios Florida later this year could potentially find the restaurant welcoming guests again.
Finnegan's isn't alone. Another longstanding experience is preparing for a return that could look considerably different.
An Opening-Day Favorite Gets Reimagined
Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show closed on May 12, after its original version gave its final performance the day before.
The show had been part of Universal Studios Florida since opening day, making this more than a routine temporary closure.
Universal decided to reimagine the experience rather than simply reopen the same production.
The updated Horror Make-Up Show is expected to arrive in winter 2026, although Universal hasn't announced an exact date.
That creates an interesting question for longtime fans. The show has decades of history behind it, and its personality helped make it a recognizable part of Universal Studios Florida.
Once the doors reopen, guests will finally discover how much of that familiar experience remains and what Universal has changed for its next chapter.
And while those three returns are approaching, another project could become an even bigger story in 2027.
Universal's Next Coaster Still Has One Big Mystery
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is making progress at Universal Studios Florida, but its exact opening date remains unknown.
Universal Studios Hollywood's version officially opened September 16, 2026, turning attention toward what's happening in Orlando.
Universal has confirmed that Florida's Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will debut in 2027. However, the company hasn't announced a month or a specific date.
Construction progress suggests a late-winter opening, perhaps in January or early February, but that remains speculation. Universal hasn't narrowed the official timeline beyond 2027.
For now, guests will have to keep waiting for that announcement.
Winter Could Look Much Different at Universal Orlando
Guests heading to Universal Orlando later this year could find considerably more available than visitors encountered earlier in 2026.
Jurassic Park River Adventure returns November 20, while Finnegan's Bar & Grill and the reimagined Horror Make-Up Show remain scheduled for winter.
Together, those returns should restore several experiences that have been unavailable for months.
Then attention can turn toward 2027 and Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift.
