Universal Orlando Resort has been firing on all cylinders. Over the past year, it’s delivered an impressive mix of fresh attractions, live entertainment, and the kind of park expansion most theme parks only dream about. Each new addition seemed to feed into the next, building a momentum that kept fans buzzing.
From a lively family land to a blockbuster parade, and finally a game-changing new park, Universal has been giving guests reasons to return again and again. But right in the middle of this winning streak, one decision has disrupted the park's busiest season.

DreamWorks Land Kicks Things Off
That wave of momentum kicked off with the debut of DreamWorks Land. On June 14, 2024, DreamWorks Land opened its gates, adding a burst of family-friendly fun to the lineup. Drawing from beloved franchises like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and Trolls, the land mixed colorful theming with hands-on play areas and character encounters.
It instantly became a hit with parents looking for kid-focused attractions, proving Universal was serious about offering more than high-intensity thrills.

A Parade That Brings the Movies to Life
The summer energy carried over into July 17, 2024, when the Universal Mega Movie Parade debuted. With massive floats, detailed costumes, and appearances from icons like Jaws, Back to the Future, and the Minions, the parade brought the studio’s biggest hits into the streets in spectacular fashion.
It wasn’t just entertainment—it was a statement that Universal was committed to creating memorable, daily “can’t miss” moments for guests.

Epic Universe Raises the Bar
That momentum peaked in May 2025 with the launch of Epic Universe, Universal’s boldest project yet. The park introduced entirely new lands, from the nostalgia-packed SUPER NINTENDO WORLD to attractions that pushed ride technology further than ever before.
Epic Universe instantly became a destination in its own right, drawing both loyal passholders and first-time visitors eager to see what all the hype was about.

The Surprise No One Wanted
But then came the announcement that halted the celebration: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will close for good on August 18, 2025. With its unique vertical lift hill and customizable soundtrack, the coaster has been one of Universal Studios Florida’s most recognizable features.
Talk of replacements has already started, with Ghostbusters and Fast & Furious among the fan theories. Still, it’s hard to ignore that the closure comes at a rough moment.
Crowds and Chaos on the Horizon
Halloween Horror Nights kicks off less than a month later, meaning Rockit won’t be there to help handle the crowds. That leaves only Transformers: The Ride 3-D, Men in Black: Alien Attack, Escape from Gringotts, and Revenge of the Mummy as ride options during the event.
With this year’s houses including massive IPs like Five Nights at Freddy’s, Terrifier, Jason Universe, Fallout, and Wyatt Sicks, the draw is stronger than ever. However, congestion could hit an all-time high with fewer rides to absorb guests.
Universal has had a phenomenal run this past year, but this move risks dulling the shine of a record-setting streak.

Losing a Thrill Ride When It’s Needed Most
On top of that, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit wasn’t just another coaster—it was a signature part of the park’s identity. Its skyline-defining lift hill, the unique soundtrack selection, and its high-energy thrills made it a staple for both casual guests and die-hard fans.
Taking it away right before HHN, when the resort needs every crowd-drawing attraction it can get, is a blow that fans will feel deeply. The future might bring something incredible in its place, but this season, it will leave a noticeable hole.
