A day at Universal Orlando Resort can already take a sizable bite out of a family's vacation budget. In 2026, visitors also have to consider how much of each theme park will actually be available when they arrive.
Five recognizable attractions are currently missing from the resort's lineup. Two have permanently closed, two are undergoing lengthy planned work, and another remains unavailable following an unexpected problem.
It's happening while Universal continues charging premium prices and drawing more vacationers to Orlando with Epic Universe.
For guests spending hundreds of dollars on tickets alone, those closures could make deciding when to visit more complicated.
Universal Tickets Can Add Up Quickly
Universal Orlando uses date-based ticket pricing, so admission costs vary by park, date, and ticket option.
One-day admission can cost between $119 and $174, depending on those factors, with Epic Universe becoming particularly expensive during high-demand periods.
There are ways guests may reduce the average daily cost. Universal sometimes releases multi-day deals, packages, and other discounts. Even with those offers, however, a family can easily spend hundreds on admission before adding parking, meals, merchandise, hotel accommodations, and other vacation expenses.
With that kind of money involved, having multiple attractions unavailable can become a much bigger consideration.
Universal Studios Florida is already dealing with two permanent losses.
Two Attractions Aren't Coming Back
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit ended its nearly 16-year run at Universal Studios Florida in August 2025.
Its removal isn't happening without a replacement. Universal plans to use the area for Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, an outdoor roller coaster scheduled to debut in 2027.
The problem for current visitors is the gap between those two experiences. Rockit is gone, while its replacement isn't ready.
Universal Studios Florida lost another attraction in August 2026 when Fast & Furious – Supercharged permanently closed.
Universal continues preparing the park for its future, but guests visiting during this transitional period are experiencing the losses before all the replacements arrive.
Another longtime Universal experience is also unavailable, although its closure isn't permanent.
A Longtime Show Is Getting a New Look
Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show closed in May 2026 as Universal began a major reimagining of the experience.
The show has been part of Universal Studios Florida since the park's opening year, combining comedy with demonstrations involving practical horror effects.
Unlike Rockit and Supercharged, Universal plans to bring this attraction back. Its return is expected during winter 2026.
For now, though, that leaves Universal Studios Florida without another recognizable experience.
And the attraction situation isn't limited to that park.
Islands of Adventure Has Its Own Major Absence
Jurassic Park River Adventure has been unavailable for most of 2026.
The attraction closed January 5 for an unusually lengthy refurbishment, with Universal scheduling its return for November.
River Adventure has long been one of the signature attractions in Jurassic Park. Its enormous final drop also gives guests an option beyond the park's roller coasters.
Anyone visiting before the scheduled reopening will have to plan without it.
At least Universal placed that refurbishment on the calendar. Another Islands of Adventure closure arrived much less predictably.
Another Ride Doesn't Have a Return Date
Skull Island: Reign of Kong remains unavailable following an unexpected extended shutdown.
Universal confirmed that the enormous King Kong animatronic sustained damage during routine maintenance and is undergoing repairs.
The company has said it looks forward to welcoming guests back once those repairs are finished. What Universal hasn't provided is a reopening date or an estimate for how long the work will take.
That uncertainty makes Kong different from River Adventure. Guests know when Universal expects its Jurassic Park attraction to return. Kong currently offers no similar timeline.
With both unavailable, Islands of Adventure has temporarily lost two sizable experiences.
The Closure List Could Keep Evolving
Those five attractions aren't the only changes guests need to watch.
Refurbishment schedules can move, unexpected technical problems can occur, and Universal already has another permanent closure approaching.
Animal Actors On Location! will hold its final performances at Universal Studios Florida on November 2, 2026. Universal plans to eventually use the area for a new experience.
That makes checking attraction schedules shortly before a vacation increasingly important.
Guests Have More to Consider Before Buying Tickets
Universal Orlando Resort continues investing in what's next. Epic Universe is open, Hollywood Drift is coming in 2027, and existing experiences continue to receive updates.
But guests visiting right now are caught between Universal's past and its future.
Rockit and Supercharged are gone. Horror Make-Up Show and River Adventure remain unavailable during planned work. Kong has no announced return date.
With admission easily exceeding $100 per person, five missing attractions give families another factor to weigh when deciding whether a Universal Orlando vacation makes sense for them right now.
