Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando Resort will be closed for three days this week as colder temperatures sweep through central Florida. The water park will shut down from January 7 to January 9 due to weather that’s more suited for sweaters than swimsuits. This marks the second set of closures in January, with previous shutdowns on January 2, 3, and 4 for the same reason.
Temperatures in the Orlando area are predicted to drop to around 40 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday, with highs only in the mid-50s. Wednesday and Thursday will also be chilly, with temperatures ranging between 38 and 62 degrees. On top of the cold, rain is expected to roll in, which could mean Volcano Bay stays closed even longer if the weather remains unfavorable.
Universal Orlando is no stranger to weather-related closures, especially during the winter season. However, the recent closures at Volcano Bay aren’t the only disruptions guests have faced. The fan-favorite Jurassic Park River Adventure has been temporarily down for scheduled maintenance as part of its annual refurbishment. Similarly, Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges is also currently closed for upkeep, as the attraction undergoes its regular winter refurbishment to ensure everything is in top shape for the spring and summer crowds.
Meanwhile, over at Universal Studios Florida, the Tribute Store has wrapped up its seasonal display and closed its doors to make way for its next big theme. This unique shopping experience draws fans every season with new immersive decor and exclusive merchandise, so its temporary closure has left many fans eagerly speculating about what’s next.
The winter season at Universal is often a time of updates, maintenance, and transitions, meaning guests may encounter a few more closures than usual. Despite these changes, the resort still offers plenty of indoor thrills and entertainment. Popular attractions like Revenge of the Mummy and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts provide excitement while keeping guests warm and dry. Universal also boasts several shows, such as The Bourne Stuntacular, giving visitors a chance to take a break from the cold weather without missing out on the action.
If you’re planning to visit Universal Orlando during the cooler months, it’s always a good idea to check the official park schedule and social media updates for any changes. And if you were hoping for a Volcano Bay visit, don’t worry—Florida’s sunshine will be back before you know it!
