Universal is lowering the cost of admission at one park this fall.
Beginning September 1, Universal Studios Japan will reduce the minimum price of its one-day Studio Pass by ¥500 ($3), marking a rare ticket price cut at a time when theme park admission has largely become more expensive.

The new pricing applies to tickets released from July 1 for visits on or after September 1.
Guests will now be able to purchase a one-day Studio Pass from ¥8,400 ($52), down from the previous minimum price.
Universal Expands Dynamic Pricing
The lower entry price is part of a larger revised pricing structure.
Universal Studios Japan will continue using demand-based pricing, with ticket prices rising and falling depending on expected attendance. Guests booking earlier or visiting on quieter days are more likely to secure the lowest fares.

The decision has prompted mixed reactions online.
“So, that's what they call an ‘early bird discount,' right?” wrote one fan on X. “Well, it's only natural that same-day tickets would be the most expensive, so I think it's fine.”
Another wrote, “It's the early-bird discount, huh! It's an interesting decision amid all sorts of things going up in price!”
A third said, “If it's 500 yen, you can make it back with the other content in the park, right? In the midst of all these price hikes, getting news [coverage] for a price cut is a smart move.”
Japan Still Offers Some of Universal's Lowest Prices
The lower Studio Pass arrives after several years of rising prices across Universal's parks.
Universal Orlando Resort increased the cost of its one-day and two-day tickets in November 2023 before later raising parking fees.
Universal Studios Japan also increased the cost of its annual passes last year.

The Universal Prime Annual Pass Standard rose from ¥21,000 ($129) to ¥22,000 ($129) from November 4, 2025.
The Universal Prime Annual Pass Grand Royal also increased, rising from ¥48,800 ($300) to ¥50,800 ($312) per adult.
Disney has followed a similar pattern.
Ticket prices at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort continue to vary by date, with the busiest days commanding the highest prices.
Even with those increases, Japan remains one of the cheapest places to visit a Universal or Disney theme park.

Universal Orlando's one-day tickets typically start at around $140 for Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure, compared with Universal Studios Japan's new minimum of $52.
That gives guests access to the park's headline attractions, including SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Donkey Kong Country, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Minion Park, and Jurassic Park.
Alongside Tokyo Disney Resort, Universal Studios Japan continues to offer some of the lowest admission prices among major theme park destinations.
Universal has also noted that cost of living pressures will factor into its ticket prices when Universal United Kingdom Resort opens.
