Universal’s Latest Dig at Disney Might Be Too Much for Fans to Handle

The world of theme park rivalries is never boring, and Universal Orlando Resort certainly knows how to keep things interesting. Just when Disney fans were still processing the permanent closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, Universal jumped at the chance to add some snark to the mix.

On June 7, 2025, the iconic Muppet*Vision 3D closed its doors for good, and Universal couldn’t resist throwing a little shade at Disney’s expense.

Fans of Muppet*Vision 3D were left devastated by the news that the attraction at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios would be no more. The closure announcement was made back in November, and although the attraction had never seen long lines, it had amassed a loyal following.

For many, the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D felt like the end of an era, especially as Disney revealed plans to demolish Muppets Courtyard to make way for an area inspired by Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.(2001).

On its last day of operation, however, the attraction saw an unexpected surge in visitors. For years, guests had been able to walk into the theater with minimal wait times.

But on June 7, the lines for Muppet*Vision 3D stretched all the way into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, as this fan tweeted:

The surge in guests was a fitting farewell to the beloved attraction, but it wasn’t enough to keep it open. Disney fans, who had long loved Muppet*Vision 3D for its quirky charm and comedic value, took to social media to express their dismay. Some even launched petitions, hoping to sway Disney into keeping the attraction running.

In the midst of this fan outcry, Universal Orlando Resort wasted no time in jumping in with a playful response. On social media, Universal posted a cheeky message that fans couldn’t ignore:

A salute to all theme parks, but mostly Universal.

The tweet made a nod to Sam Eagle from the Muppets, who is known for his patriotic speeches. But this time, Universal was clearly aiming their message at Disney, poking fun at the loss of Muppet*Vision 3D. The tweet was clever and snarky, and fans were quick to respond. While many laughed at Universal’s playful jab, others felt it was a bit too soon to be making light of Disney’s closure.

This tweet from Universal is just the latest in a long-running series of playful jabs. The theme park has previously commented on Cinderella Castle, even going as far as making fun of the appearance of the Disney World icon when it was “covered” by Stitch. Universal also took aim at Disney’s decision to close its trams during the pandemic, forcing guests to walk longer distances to the parks.

Despite the rivalry, Universal’s social media team knows exactly how to strike a chord with fans, always finding ways to engage them with well-timed humor. But for some, Universal’s latest tweet crossed the line, especially with the emotions still running high over the Muppet*Vision closure. Still, it’s hard not to admire Universal’s commitment to keeping the rivalry alive — it’s all in good fun, after all.

What do you think? Was Universal’s tweet too much, or did it land perfectly? Let us know in the comments below!
