Upcoming Attraction Closure May Reveal Timeline for New Disney Shows

Walt Disney World is gearing up for a series of significant changes in 2025, with both new attractions and several closures set to reshape the guest experience. One of the most notable announcements is the closure of MuppetVision 3Dat Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The beloved show, which has entertained guests for decades, will officially close on June 7, 2025. While the departure of this fan-favorite attraction marks the end of an era, it also signals the arrival of new entertainment offerings designed to refresh the park’s lineup.

In place of MuppetVision 3D, Disney plans to introduce two new live shows: Disney Villains Unfairly Ever After and The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure. Though the company has not provided specific opening dates, both are expected to debut in the summer of 2025, likely around the time MuppetVision 3D closes. This strategy will help maintain park capacity and ensure guests continue to have access to high-quality entertainment.

Disney Villains Unfairly Ever After will be housed in the former Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy space and promises to offer a fresh perspective on some of Disney’s most iconic villains. Characters like Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent will take center stage, sharing their untold stories in a new theatrical format. Meanwhile, The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure will bring a reimagined version of Ariel’s story to life, featuring updated special effects, new set designs, and classic songs such as Part of Your World and Poor Unfortunate Souls.

These additions are part of Disney’s broader efforts to enhance its offerings and remain competitive, particularly with the upcoming opening of Universal’s Epic Universe in May 2025. By expanding its entertainment slate, Disney aims to attract new visitors while keeping longtime fans engaged.

In addition to the changes at Hollywood Studios, several other notable closures are occurring throughout Walt Disney World. At Magic Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed for refurbishment. This popular attraction is undergoing extensive updates to improve its ride experience and ensure long-term functionality.

EPCOT is also seeing changes, with Test Track temporarily closed for a comprehensive redesign. The updated version of the ride is expected to incorporate cutting-edge technology and design elements, offering a refreshed experience for guests.

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, It’s Tough to Be a Bug! is slated to close soon, making way for a new Zootopia-themed attraction. Additionally, Dinoland U.S.A. has been permanently closed, with plans to introduce new lands inspired by Encanto and Indiana Jones.

These closures and updates reflect Disney’s commitment to evolving its parks and providing innovative experiences for guests. While it may be disappointing to see certain attractions go, the upcoming changes promise to deliver fresh excitement and new memories for visitors in 2025 and beyond.
