For nearly 30 years, the women of ABC’s hit talk show, The View, have gathered around and spoken about the hot topics of the day. They have also interviewed some of the biggest politicians and celebrities in the world. The show first aired in 1997 and was created by legendary newswoman, the late, great Barbara WaltersThe View’s first hosts were Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopolous, and Joy Behar.

Now, Behar is the only original host left. She is joined by actress Whoopi Goldberg, former political strategist Anna Navarro, political strategist Alyssa Farah Griffin, lawyer Sunny Hostin, and TV personality Sarah Haines.

Throughout its decades on the air, The View has had its fair share of notable cohosts. This includes Meghan McCain, the daughter of former Senator John McCain, Disney Channel star Raven-Symoné, journalist Lisa Ling, and political commentator Nicole Wallace.

However, it is one former cohost who recently had viewers up in arms and threatening to boycott the show.

Full House star Candace Cameron Bure cohosted The View from 2015 through 2016. But on Friday, April 12, she returned to the stage as a guest, ready to discuss her new film, Unsung Hero. Unfortunately for the show, fans were not excited to see the former host return. In fact, they were incredibly angry and said they would not be tuning in.

Over the years, Bure has made headlines for some very controversial views and statements. Bure was one of the key actresses used in Hallmark Channel movies and appeared in more than two dozen films for the network. But, in 2022, she announced that she was leaving Hallmark because the network no longer made movies that she felt comfortable with.

Bure was immediately called out for what viewers and fans thought she really meant — the films weren’t religious enough and she didn’t like that they featured gay couples. She said that she was headed to Great American Family to make movies because they focused on “traditional marriage” and “good family entertainment”.

The View has always had hosts that covered the political spectrum, and has always talked about the importance of inclusion. So, viewers were stunned that they would bring on someone who had been so outwardly homophobic.

Turning off, seeing anyone who is against the LGBTQ community is a pass regardless if she was a co-host or not.

Candace Cameron Bure has always been very open about her deeply religious opinions, but some viewers said they would not be tuning in because Bure had used her religion to discriminate against others.

All I heard was @candacecbure next on the View. 🤢🤮That is a hard pass. I dont respect self righteous charlatans.
@TheView Why??? She’s spews hate under God’s name. I always pray she sees the light, and will continue praying for her, but won’t support hate and bigotry.

Sara Haines is one of the current hosts on The View, who calls herself a “left-leaning moderate” who grew up in a conservative household. She is a strong advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community because she has a brother who is gay. Some viewers wondered how Haines would react, since Bure does not support the gay community.

Let’s see if @candacecbure is brave enough to tell Sara Haines her brother is a mistake for being gay. Such a Coward. Luckily, Sara is a Christian and kind person, she will be respectful. @candacecbure can stay under a rock with the rest of her tRump trolls.

A Show Full of Controversy

This is not the first time that The View has made headlines for more controversial topics. Most recently, Alyssa Farah Griffin shocked audiences when she talked about how sperm could be used as a really great face cream. ABC — which is owned by Disney — received so much backlash that they edited the segment out.

Then, there is Whoopi Goldberg, who has made headlines more than once. Most famously, Goldberg was suspended from the show when she said that the Holocaust — a terrible time when more than 6 million Jewish people were executed — was not about race. Instead, she said it was about “man’s inhumanity to man.”

Goldberg has since apologized, saying that she has been taught that the Jewish people are a race of people. She said that she was not aware of that fact before she made her comments.

Goldberg also had to issue an apology for using the term “gypped” on air. She said that she was unaware that the phrase was once used as a derogatory term toward the Romani people. They were once called “gypsies” and thought of as thieves and swindlers. However, this time, more people were on Goldberg’s side and revealed they did not know the word’s origin either.

Do you think The View should have had Candace Cameron Bure as a guest? Let us know in the comments.
