When Can You Watch ‘Snow White’ on Disney+?

Disney has never shied away from revisiting its animated classics, and in recent years, those reimaginings have taken the form of big-budget live-action remakes. While some of these films have sparked joy and nostalgia, others have stirred strong reactions from fans — and not always for the reasons Disney might hope.

One recent release has generated more buzz than most, and it’s left many viewers wondering when they’ll be able to watch it from the comfort of their own homes.

The live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was officially announced back in 2016, but it wasn’t until the casting of Rachel Zegler in 2021 that the project began to generate widespread attention. Zegler, who starred in West Side Story (2021), was tapped to play the titular character, a decision that immediately drew a wide range of reactions online.

During the film’s press tour, Zegler made headlines when she spoke about how her version of Snow White would depart from the original 1937 character. She described the new princess as “not going to be saved by the prince,” and questioned whether the prince was even necessary to the story, calling him a “stalker” in one interview.

While her comments resonated with some fans who welcomed the update, others accused her of being dismissive of a film they considered sacred.

Unfortunately for Disney, the controversy didn’t seem to help ticket sales. After nearly a month in theaters, Snow White has grossed under $200 million worldwide — far short of the estimated $427 million needed just to break even. Critical reception was mixed at best, with a 39% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Audience reactions were more positive, earning the film a 72% audience score, but many fans opted to wait it out instead of going to the theater.

That’s led to the big question: when will Snow White start streaming on Disney+?

While no official release date has been shared, Disney’s recent streaming history offers a few clues. Most of its major releases over the past year have followed a similar pattern, becoming available to stream roughly four months after their theatrical debut.

Moana 2 launched in theaters on November 27, 2024, and arrived on Disney+ by March 12, 2025. Inside Out 2 followed the same pace, while Wish took slightly longer.

If Snow White sticks to this timeline, fans can expect to see it on Disney+ by mid-to-late July. However, due to its disappointing box office numbers, there’s a chance Disney may opt for an earlier release to boost interest and recover some of the film’s momentum.

In the meantime, viewers might see the film available for purchase on services like Prime Video or Apple TV before its subscription-based debut.
