10 Things We Love To Hear At Disney

The rides and attractions at Walt Disney World are brilliantly and intricately woven masterpieces, all with a story that fully engages its audience. The perfect lighting, the captivating architecture and the memorable music brings whatever tale they are sharing to life, submerging us in the wonder of it all. We’ll exit a ride and talk about the life-like animatronics with our fellow vacationers and perhaps even get a theme song or two stuck playing on a never-ending loop in our head. But something we may not even think that much about is the script within an attraction, the words, quotes and catchphrases that resonate and stay with us long after the ride ends. We look forward to hearing these particular phrases as they have become one of the most revered parts of the attraction as a whole, some so memorable they even spur on a cult-like craze (something akin to the monorail’s “Please Stand Clear of the Doors” spiel and the limited edition t-shirts it spawned). As an integral part of the attraction, we can always expect to hear these fond and familiar phrases as we board these rides, unless, of course, the attraction itself has met its end (Goodbye, Maelstrom, and your beloved intro, “You are not the first to pass this way, nor shall you be the last.”). We’ve compiled a list of our ten favorite current Disney World ride and attraction quotes and catchphrases, sure to bring a Disney-memory-provoked smile to your face!

10. “Tonight’s story calls for a different kind of introduction. This as you may recognize is a maintenance service elevator still in operation, waiting for you.”

The Tower of Terror ride chills us to our bones with all the eeriness of the Twilight Zone series. Rod Serling, the mysterious original host of the television series who passed away in 1975, appears before you on the screen as these words are spoken, though a very convincing sound-alike voice actor is actually narrating it in his place. Regardless, the familiarly foreboding inflection of his voice is all I need to hear to rouse the flutters of nervousness in my belly. Cue the goosebumps!

9. “There’s a great, big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of every day!”

Truer words have never been spoken. As the theme song for The Carousel of Progress, how could we not include this catchy and cheery line? With all the hope and optimism these words promise (not to mention the fact that you’ll be singing this song for days on end), it was bound to make our top ten list!

8. “Soarin’ to tower, we are ready for takeoff!”

And with these wonderful words, we are launched into the air (flip-flops be warned!) and begin our hang-gliding flight. This aerial journey over California is extraordinary, teasing all of your senses to the point that you may even forget for a minute or two where you really are. My heart does a giddy flip as these words are spoken, knowing I’m about to experience one of my favorite attractions. I also love Patrick Warburton (“Puddy” from Seinfeld) who, as the onscreen narrator, sneaks in some comedy into the safety spiel before he announces (in his signature baritone voice) this memorable quote.

7. “That just goes to show you, anything can happen in the movies.”

There are quite a few “plot twists” that happen during The Great Movie Ride, spurring on this favorite quote by your triumphant guide. You’ll find yourself in the middle of some of the most beloved movies of all time as the scenes come alive right before your eyes. There is never a dull moment here, so be on the lookout for some serious adventure!

6. “Come on, everyone! Here we gooooooo!”

Neverland never sounded so good! Out the nursery you go and over moonlit London in your flying ship during Peter Pan’s Flight. I don’t know about you, but I feel like a kid again when Peter gleefully shouts these words. It’s a classic favorite!

5. “I’ll need a limo – make it a stretch. In fact, make it a SUPER stretch!”

During the intro of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Aerosmith’s “manager” is slightly overwhelmed when she informs the band members that they are late to their next show and, not wanting to leave the fans behind, they insist you get to come watch (with backstage passes, no less). She gets her contact on the phone to secure your mode of transportation to the event, uttering this memorable line that has many a rider reciting right along with her.

4. “Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow.”

While you kick back and relax on your elevated tour of Tomorrowland on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (PeopleMover), you’ll hear this familiar line before you exit the Space Mountain ride-through. This ride has been here a long time and while some of the quirky script has changed throughout the years, this particular line has remained. Yep, there was a t-shirt designed for this memorable quote too! Clever, Mr. Morrow. Mr. Tom Morrow.

3. “Hold on to your personal belongings – especially them hats ‘n’ glasses, ’cause this here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!”

Yeehaw! This is probably the most well-known safety spiel inside the Magic Kingdom, and you’ll hear many a runaway train passenger citing the words right along with him. You’ve got to love the enthusiastic way this “feller’s” western voice drawls this warning, and he ain’t kidding—with all the drops, twists and turns you can kiss those Mickey ears goodbye!

2. “Welcome, Foolish Mortals.”

The Ghost Host is just so quotable, am I right? This attraction has all the Disney ride reciters “materializing,” joining in along the ghostly spiel. It’s hard to pick just one phrase from the Haunted Mansion, because, let’s face it, all the cleverly uttered lines are incredibly memorable and essential to the ride as a whole. Although my “cadaverous parlour betrays an aura of foreboding,” I am an avid fan of this attraction and the spooky script. You won’t find me “volunteering” any time soon to become another one of their “999 happy haunts” though!

1. “Dead Men Tell No Tales”

The Pirates of the Caribbean would be nothing without this echoing, ominous line amidst the eerie sea of rolling fog. During the swashbuckling voyage through pirate-riddled seas you’ll be certain to collect a handful of other memorable quotes along the way too, such as, “We wants the redhead!” and “Here kitty, kitty, kitty.”
