Disney World Hosted Citizenship Ceremony for 1,000 Immigrants on July 4

Walt Disney World Resort is no stranger to creating extraordinary experiences for guests. Still, on July 4, 2007, an event took place at the Magic Kingdom that was more meaningful than any fireworks or parade. On that day, 1,000 immigrants from over 100 countries gathered in front of Cinderella Castle to take the Oath of Allegiance and become U.S. citizens.

As the United States celebrated its Independence Day, the ceremony symbolized the true spirit of America—diverse, united, and built on shared ideals. In 2025, when the topic of immigration is more likely to spark hateful political debates than heartwarming stories, it’s hard to imagine such an event at Walt Disney World Resort. But on July 4, 2007, it happened.

The ceremony kicked off with the National Anthem performed by the legendary Gloria Estefan, followed by a military Honor Guard raising the American flag. It also featured speeches from U.S. Senator Mel Martinez, Meg Crofton (then-President of Walt Disney World Resort), USCIS District Director Kathy Redman, USCIS Acting Deputy Director Michael Aytes, and actor Andy Garcia.

“America is a country more diverse than any other, built on the backs of millions of people who sought liberty and a better life for themselves and their families,” Garcia said. “A country not defined by race, religion, or ethnicity, but by shared civic ideals and values.”

“While it wasn’t your typical Independence Day celebration, it may have been one of the most meaningful ever held inside the Magic Kingdom,” the TikToker said.

Rain started just as the Oath of Allegiance concluded, but the crowd remained undeterred, donning ponchos provided by Disney cast members as the event continued. Two F-15 jets flew overhead, completing the ceremony with a dramatic flyover down Main Street, U.S.A.

After the Oath of Allegiance, the new citizens participated in a joyous parade down Main Street, U.S.A., waving American flags as they marched behind Mickey Mouse and a marching band.

“For a moment, the symbolism was easy to see,” the TikTok user said. “Main Street has always been a vision of America, and now it had 1,000 new citizens walking right down the middle of it.”

Though Walt Disney World Resort has not brought back this exact ceremony, Magic Kingdom Park still celebrates July 4 with a spectacular 360-degree fireworks show, live entertainment, and themed food and drink throughout the park.
