15 Romantic Experiences for Your Walt Disney World Bucket List

Cinderella's Castle Romance

Disney World may be primarily known for its appeal to children and families, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a romantic getaway destination for couples as well. In fact, isn’t feeling like a kid again the point of getting away with that special someone? A Disney vacation is a sure-fire way to kick start those youthful feelings for many couples. With no children along, your focus can be on each other and the things you want to do. Bearing in mind that a resort stay and park tickets cost a certain amount of money to begin with, here are a list of romantic experiences at Disney World at every budget level for your bucket list:

15. Resort to Staying Somewhere Special

You understandably have to watch your budget carefully when taking the whole family to Disney World. But going as a couple opens up some possibilities. Without having to budget as much money for theme park tickets and meals, you can consider a resort upgrade for your stay. A resort in the “value” category is undoubtedly going to attract a lot of families with children. But some of the moderate and nearly all of the deluxe resorts attract fewer children, and are more conducive to a romantic getaway. Splurge a little on your room as a great first step in your couples retreat.

14. Do What You Like

With no height limitations to be worried about and no arguments between siblings about which ride to do next, you can decide to enjoy only those attractions that you and your significant other prefer. You can go on a nostalgic journey of your favorite childhood rides, or maybe just go on the thrill rides. You don’t have to worry about doing it all. And if that means you spend your entire day in the Magic Kingdom in Frontierland and Tomorrowland without even setting foot in the other parts of the park, so be it.

13. Go for a Walk

When you become less concerned with making sure you ride every ride and see every attraction in the theme parks, the thought of going for a leisurely walk becomes a lot more attractive. Disney World offers some incredibly romantic settings for a stroll with your sweetheart. A personal favorite is the walkway just past the Grand Floridian & Polynesian resort launch dock outside the Magic Kingdom, which offers a lovely view of the Seven Seas Lagoon. Some resorts offer more options than others where walking paths are concerned. Ask your concierge/front desk staff about the walkways accessible from your resort.

12. Say Cheese

Be sure to add the Memory Maker option to your package while on your couples trip so that you and your significant other will be in every photo together. Every Photo Pass photographer across the Disney Resort is an opportunity for you to take another picture with your beloved. Not only that, all ride photos and videos are included as well! And if you want to take it to the next step, schedule a portrait session with the Disney Fine Art Photography & Video department. You can choose from a number of beautiful locations to have professional photographs taken. What a great way to remember your time together!

11. Let’s Stick a Pin in That

Disney has a selection of Celebration Buttons that you and your partner can wear that will be sure to draw the attention of the Cast Members you run across. And that Honeymoon or Anniversary button has even been known to get you little additional treats here and there across the Disney Resort. Be sure to wear them for your dining reservation! They are free at your resort’s front desk or at guest relations in the parks.

10. Have Good Taste

Along the lines of upgrading your resort accommodations, another upgrade you can make to your itinerary is your dining plans. Disney World has some truly fine dining options, and they offer a great way to set a romantic mood for your evening. Some of the favorites include Contemporary Resort’s California Grill, the Yachtsman Steak House at Disney’s Yacht Club, Jiko at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and the Grand Floridian’s Narcoossee’s and of course, Victoria and Albert’s. You will pay more for the privilege, but the experiences and food tend to be incomparable.

9. Be Souvenir Savvy

You will of course have to get an obligatory pair of Mickey and Minnie ears to mark the occasion, but consider a different tack where your other souvenir purchases are concerned. Instead of getting a bunch of t-shirts, plush toys, pins, and mugs, consider pooling all of that money and stopping by The Art of Disney shop in Disney Springs to purchase a piece of fine art to commemorate your trip. They have animation cels, paintings, limited edition prints, figurines, and other amazing collectibles that will command a place of honor in your home.

8. Be a Basket Case

There’s almost nothing better than getting back to your Disney resort hotel and finding a romantic gift basket waiting there for you. Disney Floral and Gifts has customizable baskets for nearly any budget as well as themed gift packages – some of which are delivered over multiple nights! You’ll be sure to enjoy sipping your Wishes sparkling cider (or choice of wine) out of your Mickey Mouse wine glasses while eating your Disney character chocolates, snuggled up in your Mickey Mouse throw blanket and staring at the roses in your Beauty and the Beast vase.

7. Hold Your Horses

Mosey on over to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground to enjoy a horseback trail ride with your special cowboy or cowgirl. These 45 minute rides meander through beautiful woodlands and frequently include sightings of deer, ducks, armadillos, or rabbits.

6. Enjoy Free Rein

If you prefer someone else to do the “driving”, you and that special someone can opt for a horse-drawn carriage ride. Carriage rides through the woodland are available at Fort Wilderness Campground and rides along the banks of the Sassagoula River are available at Port Orleans – Riverside. And in December, Fort Wilderness Campground offers “sleigh” rides that feature carriages decorated with lights and garland.

5. Take a Cruise

Disney World offers many opportunities for you and your significant other to enjoy some time on the water on a specialty cruise. The boats available for cruises range from simple pontoon boats all the way up to Disney’s 52-foot yacht, the Grand 1. You can set sail on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake in the Magic Kingdom resort area or on Crescent Lake at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Some of the cruise options available include private dining cruises, butler service, and fireworks cruises at Magic Kingdom or Epcot.

4. Sit Back and Relax

Disney World resorts offer a number of full-service spas that provide a wonderful array of packages for you and your dearest love. Their Spas for Two include such services as custom massages, facials, and pedicures. Other services include custom baths, scalp treatment, reflexology, and other treatments. There’s nothing like a little pampering to put smiles on both of your faces.

3. Throw the Party of a Lifetime

Did you know that Disney can help you throw an unforgettable private party? I’m sure you could probably guess that was true. The Disney Resorts offer dozens of wonderful locations for your private event. But in your wildest dreams, did you ever suspect that you could throw a private party in a Disney theme park location? And perhaps even in your favorite attraction? There are available venues in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot. Locations include such attractions as The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow, the Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest Base Camp, Festival of the Lion King, and the various pavilions in Epcot, among others. While there will certainly be a number of costs to do this, overall you might be surprised at how affordable they are.

2. Say I Will

It probably comes as no surprise to find out that Disney World has a special department to help you pop the question. You can make your princess’s dearest wish come true with packages that include carriage rides, special dining reservations, a trip to the Magic Kingdom’s wishing well, or your own custom idea. If tying the knot on Disney property isn’t an option for you and your beloved Disney fanatic due to tradition or convention, the next best thing is to make the proposal magical!

1. Say I Do

Naturally, the ultimate in Disney romance would be to make your vows to your betrothed (or renew them) at Disney World. There are venues across the Disney property that offer all types of scenery, from beach settings to traditional ballroom settings, as well as exotic settings in the many pavilions of the World Showcase at Epcot. And you can customize your special day to include the exact cake, flowers, music, and food that you want. But this is Disney, so the options only get more magical from there. Make your special day memorable by including such touches as character appearances, actors to play themed roles, confetti cannons, fireworks, and even Cinderella’s coach to bring you to the ceremony!

The many romantic options that Disney World provides ensures that a couples trip to the resort will be as magical an experience as you will find nearly anywhere else in the world. Have you enjoyed any of the experiences on this list? Which ones would you and your significant other like to put on your bucket list?
