15 Unique Things To Do At Walt Disney World

Disney Castle

When most people think of Disney World, they think of kids, rides, attractions, and characters. While Disney does have some of he best rides and attractions, loveable characters, and an inviting space for kids, there are several really unique activities that you may not know exist at the happiest place on earth. Here are 15 unique things to do at Walt Disney World!

15. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

If your little one loves princesses, she can actually transform into one at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique! This unique salon allows little ones to transform into their favorite Disney princess with their choice of a beautiful hairstyle, elaborate gown, makeup, nail polish change and even have a few professional photos taken (depending on the package of your choosing). Your little one will truly feel like a princess with the attention they get from the characters, cast members, and other park guests throughout the day, making this experience 100% frown free. This is a great way to celebrate a birthday or special occasion at the happiest place on earth. There are multiple locations and advanced reservations are highly recommended.

14. The Pirates League

If your little one isn’t really into princesses and prefers the high tides of the ocean, head on over to The Pirates League where guests twelve and under can choose from various pirate makeup facial effects, assortment of accessories (bandanas, eye patches, tattoos, swords, etc.), official pirate oath and personalized name, and much more. There is also a package for a mermaid transformation complete with a mermaid hairstyle & makeup as well as a sash and distinctive necklace. This is the only location on the Walt Disney World Property. Advanced reservations are also highly recommended.

13. runDisney

If you’re a runner or are trying to reach a goal of becoming more active, runDisney may be something you’ll want to look into. There are various races that you can sign up for (5K, 10K, half marathons, full marathons) and they all take place going through various parks and resorts on the Walt Disney World property. These races are truly unique because guests dress up in their Disney gear and also meet characters along their path. It is a great way to challenge yourself and have a great time! These events sell out very quickly so be sure to sign up for reminders on the official runDisney website.

12. Photoshoots

Special events are often celebrated at the parks, but did you know that Disney is one of the best and most popular hosts for photo shoots? Disney Photography can coordinate an amazing photo-shoot in any location of your choice (by appointment) for any special occasion you may be celebrating. Whether it’s a family reunion, wedding, engagement, birth announcement, graduation, sweet 16, or anything else you can think of, it can be done in classic Disney style! An advanced appointment is recommended.

11. Weddings

There is nothing more special than witnessing two people commit themselves to one another. Witnessing or being part of a Disney wedding is truly a one of a kind and unique experience. Brides and grooms can choose from a plethora of locations to exchange their vows and just like all things Disney, everything is done in true Disney fashion with hints of magic everywhere. From the décor to the settings, ballrooms, cake, and food, a Disney wedding is unlike any other event. Disney weddings require advanced planning, so be sure to inquire as early as possible.

10. Boating

Did you know that you could actually rent a boat and enjoy Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon? The Magic Kingdom Resorts offer boating to their guests making it a very unique experience. You and your family can enjoy cruising the water and enjoy a lunch or dinner on board while taking in the breathtaking views of the Magic Kingdom and its neighboring resorts. There are also other forms of water recreation located at these resorts too! This is a great way to kick back, relax, and take in the sights and sounds of he happiest place on earth.

9. Movies Under the Stars

Every single Disney World resort offers movies under the stars each and every night. Your favorite Disney films are played nightly on a larger than life blow-up screen by the pool or beach area (if applicable to your resort). We’re so used to watching movies indoors, so this is a nice treat because the atmosphere is beautiful no matter which resort you’re watching from! It’s also a great way to enjoy a snack and relax by the pool! Check the guide for your resort upon check-in!

8. Electric Water Pageants

If you’re staying or visiting any of the resorts in the Magic Kingdom area, you’ll love checking out the nightly Electrical Water Pageant. Every night guests find a comfy spot along the beach of their resort to watch larger than life mythical sea creatures and flags light up the lake with correlating Disney tunes. This fifteen-minute parade is very cute and loved by many that stay at these resorts! I personally love to watch it right after dining at the amazing restaurants that these resorts offer.

7. Backstage Tours

Many admire the magic of Disney, but being able to understand how it all unfolds for guests is truly a distinctive experience. There are various backstage tours to check out, and after doing a few myself, they are the best investments I’ve made! I love getting to know the cast members on the tour and sharing the love for Disney with other guests as we learn all of the ways in which Disney makes magic for others. Backstage tours are for adults only and fill up quickly. Advanced payment and reservations are required.

6. Resort Campfires

Who doesn’t love roasting marshmallows by a fire? Did you know that every Disney resort now has a marshmallow roasting area? Enjoy roasting unlimited marshmallows in the evening with cast members right before the movies under the stars! You can check the time for this event with the lobby of you resort. If you are staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins, you’re in for a great treat! Not only can you roast marshmallows here as well, but there is a huge s’more station to purchase graham crackers and Hershey’s chocolate! Chip and Dale are also there to sing and dance for a rootin’ tootin’ good time!

5. Character Dining

Many guests at Disney World love character dining. It’s a great way to kill two birds with one stone by meeting Mickey’s friends all while dining on some really delicious cuisine. There is a character dining opportunity at every Walt Disney World park and many of the deluxe resorts also offer this opportunity as well.

4. Pick A Pearl

One of my favorite things to be apart of is the Pick A Pearl experience at the gift shop in the Japan Pavilion in Epcot. Guests can choose an oyster and watch as the Japanese cast members festively open the oyster to reveal your pearl. There are various colors and sizes, so you’ll never know what you will get! There have even been guests lucky enough to receive two pearls from one oyster. After this, you can select a setting to have it placed in. Whether it’s a necklace, ring, earrings, or bracelet, your pearl is sure to look beautiful! If you’re not visiting Epcot, but still want to experience this, you can now do so at Disney Springs!

3. Hard Ticket Events

There are many hard ticket events that provide a unique experience that is unlike a regular day at the parks. Two of the most popular events, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party are a great way to celebrate Halloween and Christmas. The Halloween party offers an exclusive parade and show, trick or treat stations, and various character meet and greet in their costumes. Guests are also allowed to wear a costume of their own. At the Christmas party, guests can enjoy exclusive shows and parades, hoe chocolate and cookies, and Mickey and friends in their holiday attire. These events are held on certain nights in the Magic Kingdom. These events are truly magical and memorable!

2. Kidcot Fun Stops

Epcot offers a fantastic experience for kids at each of the 11 pavilions in the world showcase. Children are given a cardboard Duffy the Disney Bear that they can color in and personalize at the first station they visit. AS they travel through the world showcase, they can visit each of the Kidcot stations in each country to collect stamps and meet a cast member that will give them insight of their native country. They will even write your name in their language! This is a great way to collect a one of a kind souvenir! The best part is it is included with theme park admission and doesn’t require any additional payments!

1. The Kiss Goodnight

Every single evening just before the last few guests leave the Magic Kingdom park at closing, there is a very special closing ceremony that takes place called The Kiss Goodnight. This 2- minute ceremony is played every 30 minutes after park closing and begins with the beautiful Cinderella castle twinkling lights along with the song When You Wish Upon a Star. While this is playing, a narrator greets the guests with a beautiful speech relating to making dreams come true. If you are a true Disney fan like I am, I know you will choke up at how sweet and heart-warming the speech is. It is truly magical and a must do at night if you’re in the Magic Kingdom.

About Natalie

Natalie is an elementary school teacher and a native Floridian who lives and breathes all things Disney. Her love for Disney started at the age of two during her first visit, and has continued to flourish into her adult life. She loves to share her Disney passion with her students and believes Disney is so special because there is no other place to forget about your worries and be a kid again, which is why she refuses to ‘grow up’.
