Twitter Jumps to Defense of Disney Cast Member Who Wore Dress

Over the past few years, Disney has been changing what it means to be a Cast Member. Disney used to have stringent rules about how the Cast Members looked, from how their hair had to look to the jewelry they could wear and what their nails had to look like. However, Disney has realized that not all Cast Members are the same, and the company wants them to be able to express that. Cast Members are now able to wear fun jewelry, show off their incredible tattoos, and express themselves in ways they were not able to before.

Disney inclusion

Back in March 2021, Disney added a fifth key to its company ethos. That key was inclusion. Inclusion is so important to Disney, not just when it comes to its Cast Members, but also when it comes to Guests. Disney wants each and every Guest to feel welcome and represented in its Parks.

Unfortunately, not everyone agrees with Disney’s new Cast Member rules. That became glaringly clear when a Cast Member went viral for wearing a dress in Disneyland. The beloved Cast Member, Nick, works at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique as a Fairy Godmother’s Apprentice. Nick — who clearly loves his job — greeted families with an infectious smile, wearing a dress and beautiful makeup.

Trolls were quick to come out and insult Nick and call his outfit inappropriate. They went after Nick and went after Disney. However, the trolls weren’t the only ones to come out. Nick’s supporters defended him and aimed at the trolls who spread nothing but hate and negativity.

5 year old: Why is that man dressed like a girl?

Adult: Because maybe he wants to…

5 year old: okay [skips along]

Slash Film founder Peter Sciretta wasn’t having any of the bullying that was aimed at Nick. He also pointed out that the beloved movie Mrs. Doubtfire was about a man (Robin Williams) who dressed as an old woman.

They look great! Don’t tell this guy but Mrs Doubtfire was a Disney movie and that came out 30 years ago.

I’ve shut off comments on this because angry man babies are attacking me. But want to clear things up:

1. Yes I know Mrs Doutfire was released by 20th Century Fox, a company that Disney now owns. I just got done working 18 years for one of the most popular movie news sites on the internet, you can be sure I know how to use IMDb to look up movie distributors and probably already knew that information.

2. Yes I’ve seen the movie and know that Robin Williams in the film is just dressing in drag to see his children. My point wasn’t to compare him to the person in this video who actually identifies. I was saying do you think the guy who posted this tweet was mad about THAT movie? Oh it’s okay to show your kids a man dressed as a woman when its played for comedy? But when it’s reality the kids won’t be able to handle it? That’s stupid.

3. This person has stolen another persons video from TikTok and reposted it with his own watermark. I guess this person thinks that it’s okay to teach our children to steal other peoples content but it’s not okay to accept other people.

4. If you’re going to quote tweet me I’m just gonna block you. I’m not even going to read it. Enjoy 😊

Twitter user Beth (@PixieDustVibes) had enough of people like Nick being targeted. She said that they were not the only ones who wants to be able to express themselves.

1) F**k right off.
2) this CM is just doing their job and didn’t asked to be criticized.
3) Whether you believe it or not, there are lots of little boys who want to dress as princesses (& girls who want to dress as the prince or a pirate), how nice for them to feel represented

Twitter user Radical Jesus (@RadicalJesus44) agreed that representation matters.

This is actually a good thing. Representation matters & children should be able to know that this is okay!

Disney first made big changes to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique last summer. The company announced that Cast Members who worked there would no longer be called “Fairy Godmothers In Training”. Instead, they would now be called “Fairy Godmother’s Apprentice”. Overall, the changes have been very welcome. Children who head to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique can either receive princess or knight makeovers.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance and are HIGHLY recommended. They are notoriously hard to get. Different packages can be purchased so a variety of budgets can be accommodated.
