Helicopter Performing Disney Task Faces Complications
The helicopter was scheduled to perform a routine “Dumbo Drop,” a maneuver where a vehicle is used to pick up and transport an animatronic elephant from the Jungle Cruise attraction for repairs. The Jungle Cruise at Disneyland Resort just reopened after a three-week renovation yesterday. This last “Dumbo Drop” was likely the finishing touch on that mission.
This beloved attraction, which first embarked on its river journey in 1971, underwent a significant makeover to enhance the guest experience while preserving its classic charm. The Jungle Cruise refurbishment aims to bring new life to the ride, transporting visitors through a vivid landscape filled with animatronic animals and adventurous expeditions.
However, things took a sudden turn when the pilot reportedly noticed that his helicopter was experiencing distress due to a fuel leak. In response to the issue, the pilot allegedly took swift action, moving the helicopter across key areas of Disneyland, including the Esplanade, Hollywood Backlot, and part of Avengers Campus, before deciding to exit the park for an emergency landing at a different location.

Pilot Narrow Avoids Danger; Cast Members Clean up Mess
The aftermath of the incident prompted Disneyland officials to close parts of the backlot and the Esplanade for safety precautions as teams worked to address the fuel leak and clean up the affected areas. The cast member noted that several attractions, such as the Animation Building, did not open until later in the morning as cleanup efforts were underway.
Despite the scare, there were no reported injuries. However, a few park guests experienced the nauseating smell of the leaked fuel.
A cast member who was not on duty at the time of the event but learned about it from colleagues praised the efforts of the custodial teams and other cast members who worked quickly to ensure the area was thoroughly cleaned and safe for guests. They shared the entire report, saying:

Helicopter was scheduled to do a “Dumbo Drop” which was pick up and take an elephant from Jungle Cruise for a repair. Around that time the pilot noticed his vehicle was in distress and he had a fuel leak. He moved across the Esplande, Hollywood backlot, and part of Avengers Campus before deciding to leave the area and make an emergency landing elsewhere.
This resulted in a good portion of the Backlot and Esplande being closed as the fuel leak was cleaned up and scrubbed for everyone’s safety. If you were there you might have noticed the Animation building for example didn’t open until around 10am.
Anyway, by all accounts, the pilot is safe and no injuries reported beyond some folks getting dripped on and given a chance to clean up and offered replacement clothing.
