The Disney Wonder departed Vancouver, Canada, for a 10-day cruise to Hawaii when it apparently had to make a detour to rendezvous with the United States Coast Guard.
According to CruiseMapper.com, we can see that the Honolulu-bound Disney Cruise Ship made a sudden course change off of Astoria, Oregon, where reports from passengers indicated that a passenger has to be evacuated off of the ship via helicopter due to a medical emergency.
One person aboard the ship said,
“I’m on the ship now, they evacuated a guest via coast guard helicopter due to a medical emergency. We’d been heading east since around 1or 2pm and it was announced at around 4pm Wednesday it would be a 12 hour detour to Astoria Oregon for the medical emergency but later around 6:00pm it was announced that two coast guard helicopters would be meeting up with the ship at around 7pm. They finished the evacuation around 8pm.”
It is unclear what medical emergency befell the medevaced cruise passenger but the ship resuming course to the Hawaiian Islands seems to suggest that this was a one-off incident. Either way, our thoughts, and prayers are with that passenger and his/her family.
Disney Cruise Line prides itself in upholding the highest standards of health and safety, continuing to offer a modified cruise experience due to COVID-related concerns.
Meanwhile, on the near-complete-opposite side of the world, the Disney Wish continues her sea trials and other final tests, checks, and preparations before delivery. Her maiden voyage out of Disney Cruise Line’s homeport at Port Canaveral, Florida, is still scheduled for later this year.
