The EPCOT World Showcase is undergoing a series of noticeable transformations, with the Mexico and Canda Pavilions currently under refurbishment.
Mexico Pavilion Updates Amid Larger EPCOT Refurbishment Efforts
Over the past few months, construction crews have been hard at work on the EPCOT World Showcase Mexico Pavilion. Scaffolding has covered portions of the iconic pyramid, with teams focusing on repainting and exterior updates.
Inside, the pavilion’s only attraction, the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros, has been closed since January for refurbishment. Disney cast member previews began earlier this week, and the attraction is scheduled to reopen to all guests on March 15, 2025.
Recent photos shared by WDWNT show that the pyramid’s exterior remains under construction, with themed scrims now in place. While a previously closed walkway has reopened outside, a sign inside directs guests to use an alternate exit.
Walt Disney World Resort has not publicly commented on when the pavilion’s exterior work will be completed, though it appears to be a simple refresh rather than a dramatic transformation.
Canada Pavilion: A Mystery Project in Progress
Meanwhile, refurbishment work continues across the World Showcase Lagoon at the EPCOT Canada World Showcase Pavilion. Construction walls have surrounded a section of the pavilion since 2023, including the former site of Le Boutiques des Provinces, a luxury shop that closed in the early 2000s.
More recently, scaffolding has been installed on the Hotel du Canada facade, and workers have been seen modifying an awning near one of the building’s entrances. Permit filings suggest upcoming signage installations, but Disney has yet to confirm what changes are being made.
Political Speculation Surrounding EPCOT Updates
While the EPCOT World Showcase refurbishments are likely routine, some have drawn connections to recent political discourse. With former President Donald Trump vowing to enact new tariffs on Canada and Mexico and even suggesting the U.S. should annex Canada, some have speculated whether these updates reflect a shift in geopolitical relations.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has publicly criticized Trump’s policies, further fueling discussions about international relations between the neighboring countries. Some Disney Parks fans are boycotting the United States in response, canceling their Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort vacations.
Of course, Disney has not linked the EPCOT refurbishments to any political event. The World Showcase updates appear to be part of Walt Disney World Resort’s ongoing efforts to refresh aging attractions and infrastructure.
