Disney Announces Skyliner Closure in the New Year

Walt Disney World Resort is home to some of the most unique and exciting ways to travel around the parks and hotels. Guests can hop aboard the monorail for an elevated journey, take a relaxing ride on the Friendship boats, or cruise through the skies on the iconic Skyliner gondola system.

Each transportation mode offers something special, but the Skyliner has quickly become a fan favorite for its sweeping views and the ease it provides for getting around the resort. However, even Disney’s beloved transportation systems occasionally require a little time for maintenance and refurbishing.

When the Skyliner debuted in 2019, it brought a new level of convenience and charm to the resort’s transportation offerings. Connecting key resorts like Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, Art of Animation, and Riviera Resort with EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios, it offered a unique perspective of the parks and resorts, gliding above the traffic and crowds below.

The Skyliner’s quick and efficient service made it a go-to for many guests, especially on busy park days, providing a scenic and convenient alternative to buses and cars.

But just as with any popular attraction, regular maintenance is essential to keep things running smoothly. In keeping with this, Disney has officially announced that the Skyliner will undergo a scheduled refurbishment in early 2026.

The closure will take place from January 26 to February 1, giving the system a brief break to address wear and tear from constant use. While this may disrupt some guests’ travel plans, Disney assures visitors that other transportation options, like buses, will be available to ensure that all resort areas remain accessible during the brief closure.

While the brief closure may cause inconvenience for some, Disney World continues to prioritize the safety and comfort of its guests, ensuring that every form of transportation remains in top condition.

Though the Skyliner may be temporarily unavailable, Disney’s buses will continue to provide service between the affected resorts and the parks, ensuring that guests can continue to enjoy the magic of Walt Disney World without interruption.

As the refurbishment date approaches, fans of the Skyliner can rest assured that their favorite gondola system will be back up and running soon. And for those who have yet to experience this charming mode of transportation, there’s no better time to plan a visit to Disney World and take in the spectacular views from above. The Skyliner will be ready to return and continue making magic for Disney fans of all ages.
