If you’re trying to follow the continuity of Jurassic World these days, you’ll need a flowchart and a bottle of aspirin.
The upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) ignores Jurassic World Dominion (2022), opting for a full reset by killing off dinosaurs worldwide and confining all surviving species to a remote island, despite the 2022 film showing them flourishing across the globe.
Now, the upcoming video game sequel “Jurassic World Evolution 3” appears to toss Rebirth aside altogether, leaning back into the fan-favorite idea of dinosaurs co-existing with humanity around the world.

The new game, developed by Frontier Developments, just dropped its first trailer—and it’s not subtle about scale. Touted as an “epic globetrotting campaign” by the official website, “Jurassic World Evolution 3” allows players to build theme parks in locations like Japan and Hawaii; a far cry from the tropical islands or fenced-in sanctuaries of the past.
Jeff Goldblum returns once again to narrate as Dr. Ian Malcolm, even lending his voice for the trailer where he delivers the usual panic: “We altered the course of nature, unleashed genetic power across continents… it is up to us to nurture what we have set free.”
The voiceover doesn’t just sell the stakes—it reminds players of the unfulfilled promise Dominion made, the same one Rebirth is about to abandon. Watch the trailer below:

It’s a strange moment for the franchise. You could say Jurassic is eating its own tail. Dominion set up dinosaurs adapting to life outside enclosures: black market trading, urban nesting, ecological balance—or imbalance. But fans expected more.
However, instead of giving fans what they want, Jurassic World Rebirth has already wiped the slate clean, dragging audiences back to another jungle island with another set of humans who will almost certainly ignore every warning sign, again.

Jurassic World Dominion Has Unfinished Business
But while the films rewrite themselves mid-saga, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory—the animated Netflix spinoff—has kept the flame alive. The series has leaned into the post-Dominion concept more than the recent live-action films did, giving fans what they were promised: global chaos, uneasy coexistence, and the consequences of corporate hubris.
Now “Jurassic World Evolution 3” joins Chaos Theory in honoring the ideas Dominion flirted with and Rebirth has neglected. And with juvenile dinosaurs, new genetics systems, full-scale creative customization, international theme parks, and an anti-dinosaur fundamentalist group, the game might do what Hollywood won’t: let this franchise evolve.
“Help life find a way,” the official synopsis for the game reads. “Build your own Jurassic World like never before. Nurture generations of awe-inspiring dinosaurs with the series debut of juveniles, create and manage sprawling prehistoric parks around the globe, and let your imagination roar with powerful new creative options.”
The game releases on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on October 21. For more information about the game, visit the official website.
Jurassic World Rebirth releases on July 2.
