When families flock to water parks for a day of fun, they expect laughter, adventure, and memories. These water-filled havens are meant to be a place of escape, a break from the routine, where families can bond and enjoy each other’s company.

The Great Wolf Lodge, renowned for its massive indoor water park and family-friendly atmosphere, became the backdrop for a chilling incident. Deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a man attempted to abduct a seven-year-old boy from the swimming pool area while the child was with his family.

The suspect reportedly tried to lure the child away from the pool. When the child attempted to rejoin his family, the man allegedly grabbed his arm, forcibly pulling him back to the chair.

The situation could have escalated far more severely, but thanks to the child’s quick thinking and the swift intervention of a resort employee, the boy was able to break free and find safety. This quick response undoubtedly helped avert a more dangerous outcome.

Deputies quickly reviewed the resort’s surveillance footage, which led them to identify the suspect as Travis Andrew Bright, a 46-year-old guest from Greenville, North Carolina. Bright was arrested and charged with felony abduction of a minor and misdemeanor assault and battery.

Although the suspect didn’t manage to remove the child from the pool area, his actions were deemed serious enough to warrant felony charges. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

As of the latest reports, Bright remains in custody at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. During his court appearance, his bond was denied, and he was ordered to stay in jail until his next court date on August 28, 2025.

Authorities also speculated that alcohol may have played a role in the incident, although no breathalyzer test was administered. The situation raises even more concern, as alcohol involvement in such a serious event only adds to its disturbing nature.

The response from both the resort staff and law enforcement was commendable, as they worked quickly to ensure the child’s safety. The resort’s swift action helped prevent further harm, and the sheriff’s office’s investigation led to the timely arrest of Bright. Although this terrifying event occurred at a family-centric resort, it serves as a stark reminder that safety should never be taken for granted, even in places designed to create happy memories.
